Nothing to do with football and maybe a little heavy for a Friday evening but what’s going on with our World.

I’m 63 this year and will probably be long gone in 10 years, my grandson will be 16 then and ready to enjoy his life, what sort of life will it be?

Not linking events but it started with a war in Iraq and Saddam gone, bloodshed still rife.

We then started to send young men to Afghanistan and more and more came home in coffins.

Forgot are the thousands of unknown people in both countries now dead.

Earthquakes, floods and fires kill more throughout the world and country after country face financial crisis.

Now the Middle East is starting to rises against their governments and more change and bloodshed.

I know you lot don’t have the answers, not sure anyone does, but I find it getting just a little bit scary.

I think this phase of history is the end game for a lot of systems / philosophies / governments etc, naturally there is fear / panic and resistance. But we are an adaptable species and we will survive (not all of us, but those who are willing to change) - but there might not be any Sky TV news to tell us what they think is right and wrong <ok>

Like many, I bury my head in the sand and try not to think about it. There are political, religious, lands and financial troubles all over the world at present, with no sign of things improving in the near future.

What I'm trying to say is that if you think about all of this too hard, you are very likely to find the nearest bridge and jump off it!

Big Chris is welcome to jump off the bridge without thinking about anything at all if he likes! <whistle>

    PLEASE!

I think it is great (not the bloodshed) - but finally people are standing up to regimes all over africa and parts of the middle east.

As it is a footy forum - I am going to use a footy analogy

Imagine you are told by the government (that will never change) that you have to support Newcastle for the rest of your life or you will face life in prison, your family threatened and your next door neighbours spying on you?

Well people are now wanting to support Sunderland - and have the human rights - priviliges that we take forgranted in the West .. and I for one salute their courage and the will to want to change things for the better.

There is a good fact that no democracy has every declared war on another democracy... and if it stays that way - the world is actually becoming a better place :)

The world is coming to an end Syd on 12/12/2012. The ancient Mayan calendar has predicted this. All that is happening now is the prelude to this, are we ever going to see Sunderland win the premiership, I think not.

Syd. Not great for those of us with little un's but the World is ****ed.
When the most corrupt nation in the world is also the most powerful it will always end in tears.
Having worked in the Middle East on many occasions I have come to realize that my beloved country is not licked at all. They don't want us there and who can blame them?
Having said that the pure hatred for all things American is both shocking and deeply worrying for all our futures.
My big fear is one day not too far away China will get involved. The day that happens, like I say.....
    The world is ****ed.

Syd man, you're 63. That means you were born in 1948. That's only 3 years after the biggest **** up in human history finished (the nazis) and just before the iron curtain went up. Fast forward to 1962 (when I was born) and you have the Cuban missile crisis. Since then we've had Idi Amin, Pol Pot, General Pinochet, apartheid, the colonels in greece, etc. etc. This world has always been a mess and always will be. Fret not for your boys any more than your parents fretted for you, as they picked their way through the WWII rubble to cash in their ration coupons. I am, therefore I **** up, as Rene Descartes might have said...

Syd, think of WW1 & WW2, the country has been there and done that, we can do it again.

My worry is that the youth/young men of today don't have the backbone, morals and guts to fight for the country like their for fathers did.

They are ok mugging old people, taking drugs, dodging work and if drinking was a martial art well we would be well safe.(ok not all are like that)

Keep the faith! Not only in The Lads but in the next generation. At one time or another I'm guessing that the 'older generation' always bemoan folllowing generations. My kids are great and so are their kids-I've no doubt they will survive comewhat may and so will everyone else. Of course they will have to adapt to circumstances that we can only speculate about. The wife and I adapted to change, my Dad and Mam did and so did their parents. It's life, it's tough but it's so much better than throwing the towel in. Football is a metaphor for life-you have to keep competing no matter how tough the competition.

I'm a similar age to our great moderator,at 60,and worry about jobs for my grandchildren etc.It only seems five minutes ago that I was worrying about jobs for my children. We can do nothing about what is happening in the Middle-East....let them fight it out amongst themselves.Let's just hope that we finish above the team above us in the north-east!!!
