Won 5 Lincoln City (EFL Cup) Crystal Palace (FA Cup) Manchester City (EFL Cup) Everton (Premier League) Blackpool (FA Cup) Lost 7 Liverpool (Premier League) Brighton (Premier League) Fulham (Premier League) Nottingham Forest (Premier League) Aston Villa (Premier League) Newcastle (EFL Cup) Newcastle (EFL Cup) Including the cups it doesn’t look quite as bad, but the Premier League record is woeful.
Not mine - just got a robovac and would thoroughly recommend it if anyone is on the fence about them.
The lowest placed team of the teams we have lost to is Forest in 13th so it might look a bit different after we have played few more teams around us at the bottom.
Positions have changed since we played, I think Forest were 19th when we played them and we are the only team they have beaten away all season? I think this was the easiest run of fixtures we had this season in terms of positions when played, we are basically into a punching bag run against the Big 6 after Wolves.
Thanks, I stand corrected and apologise for the error. Mind you personally I feel looking at that he is being somewhat disingenuous because the cup games butter no Premier League parsnips, as you say, his league record is appalling and that is what pays his wages, the players and unfortunately, the wages of a lot of people who earn a tiny fraction of the what he and the players do (and they will lose their roles if we go down). I've held off any real criticism but after the games following the Manchester City game I'm starting to believe he really is not a particularly good manager. Hoofing the ball upfield is a bit 'old skool' nowadays, proper Sunday morning stuff. My old Sunday Morning League manager bloody hated it to be fair.
I guess that proves how quickly it can change with a few wins, nobody is pretending that it has been a great start for Jones but it's not been a disaster either by any means.
Interesting our xGA under Jones is worse than Ralph. Particularly given the fixtures Jones started with were pretty favourable.
This is a concern. Because he's said he is a tactical pragmatist, he'll continue to be carry on in he hope he will get it right, despite contrary evidence. If we go down, he may well get us back with a direct and aggressive game, but I'm not sure it will cut it in the Prem. Just doesn't feel right.
There is one reason why we should keep Jones. Whenever Onuachu comes off the bench he'll need a stepladder to give him his instructions.
He has been in charge 83 days. He has lasted longer than Liz Truss and a lettuce. I hope he can get it right
Once again NJ comes out with this line that formations don't matter. I'm all for giving him a chance but the thinking he is spouting isn't just naive it's ignorant and unfair on the players. I distinctly recall Ralph holding his hands up at times and admitting that he got it wrong - we were setup wrong and got caught out. Jones' comments are pretty much that whatever I do makes no difference if the players don't do the job. Whether you like the guy or not that is a crock of horseshit right there. Everything he has done and said, this idea that formations don't matter is the single thing that concerns me. I cannot recall a single other manager in the top flight saying the same thing.
I strongly advice you to check your security settings and the data you're sharing. Can be a tad shocking. May be teaching my grandmother to suck eggs of course. Vin
The main defence for Jones is that we haven't been clinical and lacking a lacking a striker. Exactly what Ralph had to deal with. For want of a better finisher we would have got wins and draws against Wolves, Villa and Everton earlier in the season and be mid table. If Ralph had made it this far his results would have been better than what we have seen under NJ so far IMO. With the resources just in the door we would be safe from relegation again. Jones is a scrapper and a born underdog - hence the comments about coming from a poor mining community. I have grave doubts that he is the man to inspire the young, highly regarded players we have who have come to us from elite clubs. So far, not even considering the results, the way he talks about football leaves me totally unconvinced.
