Batterings are what you get with Johnson how often did we put 4/5 past someone last year and comfortably get beaten ourselves not long after, don’t mind him personally he tried his best and we played some good stuff under him at times
Yeah I liked Johnson. Talked some **** at times but I liked him generally. Was time for him to go when he did. Massive respect for his message to the fans after he went. No other manager in my lifetime has done anything like that. That’s one of the things which I was most disappointed at with Allardyce. He was adored by every fan at SAFC. Yet he said nothing about his time here when he left. Never seems keen to talk about us on radio either
As good as while we were all singing we want you to stay if I remember right, to be fair he’d have walked out on us that season regardless when it was clear we weren’t going to spend
The only thing I've heard Sam say about us since he left is... 'playing for teams like Coventry, Sunderland and Millwall was nice but his heart is and always was with Bolton Wanderers.' Not verbatim, but it was something very close to that. I loved the guy but he clearly didn't give a fcuk about us. We were just another club to him.
Our attacking players create a huge number of chances for the striker. When they come here, players like Wyke and Stewart score lots of goals and a big reason is that the wingers and the likes of Pritchard supply them with probably more opportunities to score than most other clubs. I think Wyke and Stewart will never score more for other clubs than they did/are doing here. I don’t know much (anything) about Gelhardt apart from he is an excellent footballer but doesn’t score many. I predict that he will score a hatful for us (providing he doesn’t get injured) and will return to Leeds after getting double figures for us. We have a history of high scoring strikers and any striker looking to join us should jump at the chance because, if they put the effort in, they will end up like Phillips, Defoe, Bent, Quinn, Wyke and Stewart to name just a few of the many. We are a strikers paradise. They should be queuing up to get here.
I'm convinced he wasn't happy here after the survival, that was come in and get stuck in and he robab6l had little chance to reflect on the job. In pre-season he gave an interview, to the clubs media team I think, where I remember thinking he won't stick around long. He looked ****ing pissed off as the club weren't backing him in the market, on top of that he was probably noticing more how **** the club did things. A few weeks later he left for the England job but I'm not sure how long he would have stuck around anyway. Not convinced he would have carried on the form that we were in under him, don't think we would have been relegated but think we would have been in the fight as was clear stuff wasn't right.
I liked LJ. He's a brilliant coach and clearly has very good contacts in football. I doubt he'll get many more management jobs after Hibs, though.
Yeah agree with that he doesn’t seem to be able to sort a defence, not going to win promotions playing that way unfortunately for him, wonder if he’d work as a number 2? Get the balance right with him and a defensive minded coach and you could strike gold
True (well not at all, but you know what I mean) but in my first full season we won the cup, and 11 year old me completely believed it would always be that good. What a pillock. Final day missed promotion, 76 QF, jimmy hill. After that comedown i now recover from setbacks v quickly. This barely counts as a hiccup tbh.
Still think he could’ve reached out to us. He doesn’t have to thank the club at all, just the fans who absolutely loved him. Never sat right with me
This isn't a leading question or an opinion, so not meaning this to start a debate. but does anybody know if free transfer signings are limited to domestic free transfers? Or whether international ones, assuming they were without a club as of midnight last night, are also allowed? I think it has to be domestic but not sure.
Stewart & Simms both contributed massively to the defensive unit, we will miss that undoubtedly, I agree though we do have other options up front, we just have to adapt our play.
Not saying its a good idea, or not. I'm on the fence. But Jurgen Locadia left his Iranian side last month due to security fears, having joined them in the summer from Brighton, and having scored 6 in 9 for them. He flopped in the Premier League but he is powerful, pacy and would even fit the profile if you consider he's a free transfer of somebody who was highly rated and has fallen away slightly.
Brilliant coach? Is that why we used to concede goals and drop points playing against ten men? Thought he was a **** coach defensively tbh.
From what I've read - I reckon he is a good coach but an absolutely abysmal tactician. And very bad man manager.
Free agents : https://www.sunderlandecho.com/spor...-likely-they-are-photo-gallery-4009443?page=3 I’d take Frazier Campbell or Chris Martin from that lot
I thought he improved players and we had a nice style under him that he coached into us. Not the best tactician mind or motivator. That's why I'm saying he should step into the background. Somebody suggested him as a number 2, I think he'd be very good, or even as a DOF. He knows his players and has great contacts.
