What's everyone's opinion on flares at football games?? I personally think that if used safely then they can make an atmosphere all the more electric and memorable.
they were used at the man utd game by their plastic fans from cornwall - i wasnt too keen on them personally
went to a manc derby and they set some off during the blue moon and i got the biggest buzz ive ever got at a football game.............besides the saints scoring obviously!
No... 1-They created so much mist...they use them in derby matches over here in Portugal and you can hardly see the ball when the match kicks offs 2-Fans always throw it at the GK 3-It burns the grass 4-Just no,I know from experience...They are no good.
Damaging grass is the deal breaker here. I'm sure our groundsmen know every blade of grass by name..we don't want to see grown men cry.
A definite no-no, can have a bad effect on asthmatics, it is just stupid, and besides the stadium is a no smoking area, if they start to appear I for one, will disappear.
I seem to remember in the seventies we played Utd in the cup...some of their fans let them off when United scored. They then tried to throw them on to the pitch but missed and burned a couple of lads near the front......one of the two was caught and charged with having an offensive weapon (I think) Anyway he was lucky not to be charged with assault apparently at the time. A definate no no for me.......It wouldn't take long before some nutter started hurling them over into the away fans.........No Ta very much.......
Absolutely NO. Go sailing with them, and hope never to use them. Take a rattle instead - they're so 50's.
Flares-another device for those who want to exercise a supposed freedom to express themselves, whilst actually trampling on the rights of those around them to enjoy the football without annoyance. Not really that different from having someone ring a bell in your ear all the way through the match. Not big and not clever.
Ah yes that old chestnut, the same ones that think they have freedom of speech which of course includes the right to tell you to f*ck off.
