Maybe think of it in a different way. It's a team game and what's required is to get the best out of every team member, individually first and then collectively. It's vital that each player has the best opportunity to function at their optimum and therefore gives them and the team the best chance of playing well. As soon as you start square pegging you've lost that battle.
As always with me Jammy, it's a very balanced article discussing the pros and cons . But yes the author highlights the benefits in modern football of a left footed left centreback when in possession. But points out that only a third of the top teams in the top leagues in europe use a right/left footed combination. Obviously the population has a strong right-footed bias. It seems it's considered by some to be an advantage in posession but not a pre-requisite for the position. Conclusion might be.. teams pick the best centre halves regardless of preferred foot (ie you don't pick a lesser player just because of his preferred foot) - but if you can get a left/right foot combo, then that's a bonus. Example given was Van Dyjk... whose done ok on the 'wrong' side
Mourinho knows a defender. I think Llorente is a technoically good footballer just not suited to the rigours of the premier league... suspect he may do well in Italy - although his rep for schoolboy errors existed in spain long before he signed for us.
Good MORNING TO MATT and co from a slighly warmer Bardsey I watched the game and I thought that Fripo played his best game lets hope he gets better.Very disapointed with Mesliers howerver and really like their keeper.Mesliers must lewarn to assert his authority in the box was sadly poor Rutter needs to practive shooting but clearly him and Bamford work well togetherThe young lad who scored for them I would buy along with the keeper
I had the same thought Mike but then dismissed it as him being respectful to lower league opposition. He was also having a very long chat with Marsh when he came off - wonder what that was about? Llorente, good move all around. Think the slower pace in Italy will suit his game more than the physicality of the Premier League as Milky has pointed out. I am sure he will still have an error to his game but think teams target him in the EPL because they know he can flap. A good loan spell may mean a decent fee at the end of the season. Not sure if he can post it on here but OLOF has a brilliant Llorente video he sent me on WhatsApp (I am old and don't know how to do it ) The only odd thing for me is, Koch is suspended this week so what will the Centre Half partnership be? Is McKennie ready to start? Do we go Cooper and Wober? Does Ayling play there this week and, if so, why didn't we play him there on Saturday to get some understanding with Wober? Very strange!
Best transfer window for years and in a window we rarely use. McKennie passed his medical Wober and Georginio. Llorente getting the chance to replace Smalling under Jose’ and he gets to play in Europe. Koch gone and young Montero has played first team football for ages so just might get a game. Well done Radz, Vic and Jesse now kicking please
Phil Hay saying Llorente is loan until the end of the season with an obligation to buy which will see Leeds recoup at least the £ 18 million paid for him - kudos to the club, that is fantastic business in my opinion. He was very good when he finally got fit in his first season and helped us achieve the target of avoiding relegation. Been poor overall since but I wish him all the best.
I apologise to the club for digging them out about Llorente and his contract extension. Seems they know what they are doing.
This is how it's supposed to work but unfortunately too many players run their contracts down and then leave for free. It's just greed on their part as top footballers are more than well rewarded these days. Of course they run the risk of a career ending injury and then being left wthout a contract. Jack Harrison please take note...the right thing to do is protect yourself and also reward the club who have made you into a PL star.
Morning all Thank god Llorente is going. The young Portuguese lad is meant to be for the youth set up. I reckon he'll be in the first team come August. Yeah the guy we were linked with in Italy is Igor Julio at Fiorentina. Dunno how good he is. I reckon we'll be in for a busy end of window. Also I wouldn't be surprised if we see a LB come in as Wober has moved in to the centre. Does anyone know what the situation with Harrison is at the moment?
Yeah, agree. And fair play to Llorente for signing it for us. Works well for everyone. Seems Leicester want Harrison but I hope we 'do a Brighton' and refuse to sell to a club in the relegation battle.
