Kelly has potential like, he is more a no10 but as you said he scores some class goals. I would get him out on loan next season to continue his development, we need to be better at loaning players out earlier in their careers. It did wonders for the likes of Henderson, Pickford, Patto and now Diamond.
Time is running out now so I had the same thought after LND news yesterday, but get the feeling we would have explored that option more seriously by now and I haven't seen much to suggest our coaches are convinced by any of the younger strikers. Max Thompson is leading scorer but I don't think he's made our bench at all this season despite our lack of forward options. Mason Cotcher of the u18's had some exposure when we played Shrewsbury and is an England youth international. I'd be inclined to think that his chances of breaking into the first team were slim to none at his age but we've been playing Rigg and have a youthful side in general, so who's to say... Has anyone seen him play?
Yeah I have seen him a few times. Really good prospect, he is a goalscorer and his movement in the box is good. He needs to improve his hold up & link up play but you find those are the things that come with age for young strikers.
Anyone else excited to see what next couple days bring but also ****ting it that we don't get what we need?
I’m very calm. Excited to see who we bring in but confident that even if they’re “underwhelming” they will still be right.
I was worried Tuesday was going to be a damp squib now I’m going to be glued to here Twitter and SSN, work laptop on do not disturb until Wednesday
I suppose in most fans they will be feeling both emotions. Guess how many refresh buttons are being tapped away every few minutes around the world. Many thousands I should think
Mowbray specifically mentioned Simms coming back in his post match interview yesterday so I really do think that’s happening. I doubt we’d sign any other striker so it’s likely just him, Anderson and a holding midfielder
Sounds promising. Is he - or anyone not currently in the senior side for that matter - at a level where they could be close to breaking through soon? There’ll be some gaps to fill next season, would be great if we could bring through a few more of our own.
But presumably if we knew that yesterday then it was happening even when Stewart wasn’t injured Now Stewart is injured we need another
I get both sides of the argument. But we might not have the space in the wages. Especially if we want Stewart to sign his new contract. If Stewart got injured next weekend, and we had Gelhardt and Simms, we wouldn’t suddenly panic that we only have two strikers. So I don’t think we should necessarily be desperate to sign a third striker now. Especially considering any striker signed at this stage of a January window is going to be hideously overpriced. And any striker we sign now will essentially become a third striker under contract for next season alongside Simms and Stewart. We COULD loan another striker now. But what loan striker is gonna come to be third choice? Perhaps there’s a young striker whose club doesn’t value him and we can get them in now as a back up and ready to step up and replace Gelhardt from next season. But we should only be signing an extra striker now (on top of Simms) if they’re absolutely the right player at the right price.
Do you know anything of Joe Anderson? I'm struggling to find much about him, style of play, strengths and weaknesses etc.
I think Simms & Gelhardt would be sufficient for the last 18 games of the season. You are right, we aren't going to be loaning someone in who knows they are 3rd choice
