Forget football, wishing Dykes a quick recovery . Pneumonia is no laughing matter, and can have serious repercussions.
I've had pneumonia twice. Either I'm remarkably tough, or, much more likely, I was lucky to have had fairly mild cases. Both times I was fine after three or four days in bed at home. Dykes went off shortly after half time against Swansea, so he's been ill for a week. I wish him well. For all his shortcomings, we're even less effective without him.
I had it when I was 35, high fever, very short of breath, three weeks off work, no strength at all. GP said it was 50/50 whether I should go to hospital but it probably wouldn’t do me any good, and he was visiting me at home every day (those were different times). Dykes won’t be back for ages if he has it worse than I had, and the pictures don’t look good.
BlaknamberbloodWell-Known Member New So we're 3 up and only cos of a deflected shot, a hopeless own goal and an offside goal, ffs ya couldn't make it up with some of these comments lmao
A GP home visiting daily? Different times indeed. Hopefully the pictures tell an overly cautious story about Dykes.
Who knows ? Many people have underlying factors that never get picked up until something else crops out ! One would hope he isn't, but even the healthiest looking of people can suddenly drop down dead.
Critchley is plainly struggling right now but I can't get on with all this **** about how he's not cut out for management because he talks too quietly. This isn't his first managerial appointment. He was very successful with Blackpool before leaving to replace the snake at Villa. Something is badly wrong at the moment, but Critchley has to be given to the end of the season at the very least.
Not playing for the manager Bollocks This lot don't look to be playing for themselves Let alone the fans
That was by a long way the worst League game we've played under Critchley, possibly the worst League game of the season, and I've seen every one. In recent games this year we have at least controlled most of every game but our finishing and sometimes poor defending has let us down. Yesterday other than when Armstrong came on and gave Hull some grief early 2nd half, we were clearly 2nd best all over the park. Hull didn't need to play well, they just took their few chances. But we really missed Dykes. We put in a few decent high crosses and a few hopeful punts but had no one up front to reach them, Armstrong included. If Dykes is not expected back soon we will need to bring in a striker strong in the air and hopefully a goal scorer too, pronto. In the next 2 days.
Armstrong is a prospect but I can’t see him capable to fill in for Dykes. Certainly not for 90 minutes. As a team that couldn’t score in a brothel to losing it’s only real striker couldn’t be a worse situation. So surely this is where the DoF steps in and supports his manager and team in getting in a striker. Great opportunity and (if they get the right person) will prove the point we needed a striker all along. Otherwise, it’s all draws and losses to the end of the season as far as I can see. Based on the last six games we are in relegation form. We always say you can climb this league with a good run, the fear is we could also crash down if we continue this run of form to the end of the season. With 17 games left it could be closer than we’d want to see. Huddersfield (bottom three) away next week will be excruciating if we lose.
All Armstrong has to do to fill Dykes boots is not score. In all seriousness though, this has been a major issue for some time now and it never gets addressed. We are actually desperate for a striker.
We clearly need a striker, but between Willock, Dykes and Roberts we are spending nearly £40,000 a week on strikers...plus another £5,000 on George Thomas. (unless this is way off; https://salarysport.com/football/sky-bet-championship/queens-park-rangers/). Bonne has already been removed from the pay role, but surely one of the big three earners need to go before we can bring anyone else half decent in. For me, Roberts would be the obvious choice, but who would sign him and give him the same salary?
