Wouldn't be in such a precarious position if they didn't **** it up in the summer. <doh>

    So true.

Rasmus, let me introduce the chicken to the egg - or maybe the egg to the chicken.

Don't forget, Keegan from Hamburg to 15000 seater stadium in Southampton. Can happen, if not for long as we all found out!

I agree in some respects but it's not our money they'll be spending. So maybe they want to be a tad careful, I would be.

Players aren't turned off by money. Want a top level striker pay the wages.

Absolutely, although the Dell wasn’t all-seater in 1980 so the capacity was a shade over 30,000.

Exactly this. We can’t rely on footballing reasons. So up the wage offer. Fairly straightforward.

I preferred the old days when you could pick up a decent player getting towards the end of their career, and get a few years out of them.
Now they are all so well paid they don’t need to worry about extending their career for a couple of years or they bugger off to a rich and often less combative league overseas.
We could do with a Phil Boyer, Ted MacDougall or Peter Osgood type upfront and an Alan Ball in the middle to be the captain.

Wrong time to be spending £20Million, that will not get you a top striker in January.

20mill on its own maybe not, but 20mill upfront with add ons? Possibly.

Perhaps, Sadly it's looking less likely and sadly the excuses are coming out now.

Why would we advertise that? Sounds like guess work based on players that we’ve been linked to. I’d guess that how much we have to spend very much depends on the player.

After watching alcaraz in full flow we need an Alelka style striker running off him.

Might be too early for him, but that was Mara's stock in trade in France (and for France). Scored a lot of his goals by making good runs on to throughballs.

Mara should be our main forward now, Personally he.has a higher ceiling and is better than Adams.

Possibly, if we can play at a much higher pace. He's very poorly-suited to the thing where we almost exclusively play in front of defenses and he spends most of his time with his back to goal, with a 6'4" bruiser directly behind him.

Alcaraz might make a real difference there. We've clearly made a real effort to find athletic, front-foot players that want to play in space, we just need someone willing to make the passes to them in space, and to give them a reason to make those runs.

Just looked at the top Championship scorers, because to me it seems like they would now be the most attainable strikers at this point.

    Akpom (Boro) - 13 goals
    Gyökeres (Cov) - 12 goals
    Estupiñán (Hull) - 12 goals
    Morris (Luton) - 11 goals

I was only going to include the top three but when I saw Luton’s striker was fourth I had to include him <laugh>

I would not be surprised to see us go for one of the top 3. There have (I think) been a few small rumours earlier in the window about Akpom and Estupiñán, and I think they’re more likely than someone from abroad who we’ll now have to throw money at due to our league position.
