Pretty interesting article on the Athletic about how well each club is run.

It’s behind a paywall but here’s how it was worked out and the championship rankings.

The Sustainability Index was divided into four sections deemed to be valued in the government’s fan-led review published in November 2021: financial sustainability, good governance, fan engagement and equality standards.

Each of those was weighted to present an overall score for every Premier League and Championship club, with financial sustainability carrying the greatest value of the four.

That particular sub-section was calculated by measuring current assets, debts, liabilities, loans repayable within a year and wages as a percentage of revenue. All information was taken from official accounts published via Companies House to create a snapshot of each club’s financial health.

Align that with scores awarded for good governance, fan engagement and equality standards and you find each club’s ultimate score in the Sustainability Index.

Makes you realise what a turnaround we have had since the new owners arrived, considering we were haemorrhaging money from everywhere.

And this is the premier league ranking for anyone interested

Thought Brentford would be a bit higher up considering their transfer model.

Yeah think the formula is quite complicated, although they are only 10 points off Liverpool.

Look at this for example. 50% of Forest’s income is on wages.

The dubious honour of finishing bottom went to Forest, whose most recent set of accounts, incorporating the 2020-21 season, showed that £202 was being spent on wages for every £100 of income.

My maths isn't what it was but should that not be 202% of forests income on wages??

The financial records will be from the last R&A too so that doesn't even include what Forest have done this year.

Basically they are spending twice as much as they earn in laymans terms. Fast lane to bankruptcy.
