Yes but that stat isn't just about % of shots saved. It's comparing goals against xG. If we allow loads of shots from 8-12 yards that will be reflected in the xG figure.
I have to be honest - I’m not sure what you’re watching. He flaps, gives the ball away, isn’t very commanding. He’s worse than McCarthy and Forster from last season. He is a huge problem for us. He’s just not ready.
Yeah that's fair enough, I'm not sure how accurate they are myself. I wouldn't suggest they're definitive but to some extent they will take into account how "good" the chances created by the opposition are.
For me he’s a definite upgrade on both McCarthy and Forster, and unlike either of them he can be expected to improve (if we don’t knock the stuffing out of him)
I don't think he is a huge problem. At the start of the season he was commanding, claiming crosses. It's a confidence thing more than ability. I think if McCarthy was fit he would have come in for a bit and take him out of the firing line. But he's not, and I don't want a 41 year old in goal and obviously neither does Jones.
I wonder if Bournemouth are signing Jackson if we will now go for Semenyo from Bristol City, they supposedly were ahead of us for him
Hmmm....another 5ft 8" striker. Jones seems to want to get in some monsters in the Chris Wood mould (or other ****-Haalands).
xG stats are human generated and entirely subjective. Not a metric to use to judge anyone or anything.
I agree stats are **** but just using the evidence of my own eyes and general feeling. If we had swapped just the goalkeepers around for last nights game, our defence would be a lot more assured IMO. Knowing they could trust the guy behind them.
I don't think stats are useless, far from it. I make a good portion of my living these days in sports analytics and in several sports the engines that I have worked on can make very good predictions. Football isn't a nut that has been cracked yet properly and just from working with various companies I have found that football stats are at best poor.
Haha. True. Obviously it could be a case of six of one, half a dozen of the other. And I do think he has potential. I think he’s better than Gunn for example. But it was sheer arrogance and stupidity throwing such a young keeper in to a relegation dog fight. And I believe it could make a huge difference in our survival chances to get a more experienced and talented head in there. Last thing we need is an apprentice learning on the job as we throw away our premier league spot. It’s genuinely insane
I don't think it was insane at the beginning of the season as we had so much promise. Now we are in it, I agree we need an older (but not 41) and experienced head to bring some confidence and calm to the backline. To be fair I do get why Yanny B has been recalled as he is an older, more experienced head.
I totally agree that a combination of six goalkeepers and half a dozen defenders would help enormously. Not sure if it would be allowed though…
I wouldn't be against Victor Gyokeres coming in from Coventry. I think he looks a handful, Agile with a decent bit of ability for a tall striker.
