I've seen it mentioned that Danjuma wasn't our first choice as wing depth this window, instead it was Gerard Deulofeu

If true, that's going to lead to a bunch of questions about us switching tack late because Paratici couldn't negotiate with Italian clubs - or a more straightforward explanation that we could point to evidence saying that, while Deulofeu has looked the business since moving to Udinese, he does have a track record of having an average season followed by a legitimately good one followed by a middling one in the Premier League, as that describes his time at both Everton and Watford

A temporary solution for the forward target was always surely more likely. There will be so many factors in the summer that may affect the kind of forward we want to recruit
    - Conte’s future
    - Kane’s future
    - what the hell we do with Sonny if his form doesn’t pick up

Danjuma gives us something a little different to what we have and is versatile enough that he’ll get gametime. It’s sensible not to be dropping 10s of millions on a permanent deal given the uncertainty around the summer.

One of three things is holding this up:
    1) We are still quibbling over roughly £5m to meet the release clause.
    2) We are quibbling over the payment structure.
    3) We are trying to send a player in the other direction as part of the deal.

    If it's #1, we've learned nothing in 5 years.
I have a bit more sympathy for #2 as these things allow us greater flexibility on other deals.
#3 is actually really important as we currently have at least 9 players on our books either here or on loan who we urgently need to get rid of.

Found the source: Marco Conterio said that Udinese only wanted to sell Deulofeu outright rather than a loan, which is perfectly understandable given Udinese are having a pretty good season and if anyone wants to derail that it'd cost them

On the other hand, Villarreal are willing to let Danjuma leave on loan, and given he's been linked since pre-window that likely makes him a Paratici plate spin

As a sidebar, Matteo Moretto is saying we're willing to let Bryan go out on loan this month

There's also the other angle which was doing the rounds 3-4 weeks ago: we're working with Sporting to try and work out a deal they keep more of the fee than expected

I definitely remember somebody suggesting that a €40m bid would see Sporting keep a bigger chunk of the fee than if we paid the €45m upfront, and this is likely the reason why a figure of £35m keeps surfacing as that's closer to €40m (give or take a Kwasi Kwarteng brainfart...), and that does go some way to justifying the haggling because doing so keeps Sporting sweet if we wanted to sign Edwards or whoever while also dicking The Sheikh Mansour Team out of some money - and that's hardly the first example of this, given the Lo Celso deal also worked out benefitting Betis more than PSG

But of course, things like that are too complicated to talk about in an 8000 word rant masquerading as a blog...

I suspect Bryan’s situation depends on what the outlook for Lucas is for the rest of the season. There’s been rumours that we’ll let him go for peanuts in Jan if it secures the next move he wants as he’s off in the summer anyway and has been so injured this season. If that happens I suspect Gil stays. But it would be good for the player if we could get him regular football somewhere (that isn’t Spain, as he needs to play in a more physically challenging league).

Reading rumours of Navas moving to Forest on a short term contract just wondering if anyone here would take him for the rest of the season to give Hugo a kick up the ass? Obvs not a long term solution but a very good keeper.

We employed one of the Pozzo family scouts about a year ago, so someone at the club knows the player and thinks this is a good signing...

...the problem is whether that includes the current coach and if so, whether he will still be in post to put him on the bench and ignore him.

Everything's up in the air...again. There's no sense of anything that's good and stable in a footballing sense. We're still buying players, at significant cost, that the coach doesn't use...can anyone state, with any certainty, that this isn't just another to add to the list?

My immediate thought was "Hmm, isn't that why Jordan Pickford is trending on Twitter today?"

Is it even worth mentioning the rumours of Spence being loaned, or had we all assumed that would be happening back in November?

After the last miserable few weeks let's hope today is a happy day to be a Spurs supporter and Danjuma is officially unveiled and Porro deal is announced.

Would then give us 5 or 6 days to maybe put the cherry on the cake and get a CB like Skriniar. We can only dream.

    Great news. Good signing that.
Porro is the big one though, fingers and toes crossed.

It must be so annoying for Evertonians that they thought they'd signed Richalison's replacement.
Then he goes and joins Richarlison at Spurs, instead. I'd be fuming.
Pretty much looks like a Bergwijn replacement for us, though. We'll see how it works out.

We are delighted to announce the signing of Arnaut Danjuma on loan from Villarreal until the end of the 2022/23 season, subject to international clearance.

Born in Lagos, Nigeria, Arnaut began his career as a youngster in the Netherlands with TOP Oss and PSV before joining NEC Nijmegen in 2016.

Arnaut Dnjuma has joined on loan from Villarreal until the end of the 2022/23 season

After scoring 14 goals in 46 senior appearances over two seasons for NEC, he joined Belgian side Club Brugge ahead of the 2018/19 campaign, swiftly helping them lift the Belgian Super Cup and going on to score six goals in 25 games for them, including two appearances in the UEFA Champions League.

Arnaut subsequently had his first taste of the Premier League when he joined AFC Bournemouth in August, 2019. He spent two years on the south coast, scoring 17 goals in 52 games, before signing for La Liga side Villarreal in August, 2021.

During his first season with the Spanish club, he was a regular starter in their run to the Champions League semi-finals, scoring six goals in 11 appearances in that competition while adding a further 10 goals in 23 La Liga matches. During the first half of the current campaign, he scored six goals in 17 matches in all competitions, taking his overall total for Villarreal to 22 goals in 51 games to date.

On the international stage, Arnaut was first called up to the Netherlands’ senior side in October, 2018, earned a recall last season and currently has two goals in six caps to his name.
