Sorry about thread typo - should read: Alex Chamberlain may play for England seniors on weekend... ...however, if you read it aloud, it does have a bit of an unintentional Fabio Crapello diction to it... 'ehh, mama mia'... Anyway, back to the subject; Is this ridiculously premature or is it great for both player and national side? http://www.metro.co.uk/sport/880833-arsenals-alex-oxlade-chamberlain-in-fabio-capellos-england-plans
load of **** - we should only be selecting players who are playing for their clubs first and foremost but capello wont go down the league and select will he?
It's all about he plays for arsenal now so he must be good enough,it's a load of old pony and just sums up why England never do well.
I don't think it's a question of whether he thinks he's good enough or not, more a question of him being over-hyped by everyone else inlcluding Capello. Remember, Theo Walcott was the first to admit he was called into the England World Cup '06 squad too early. However, if you were him, you wouldn't refuse to go would you...
Fair enough in a friendfly match to see how he does before he plays in a game that matters. I don't suppose he'd get a second look were he still here molesting the Championship, but he is a future England player who will earn a place sooner or later. It does grind that the same old disappointments get picked, players get picked based on which club they play for and players who could make a difference get ignored, but that's how England work.
The fact that Chamberlain effectively said that he wanted to leave us because he CAN play at a higher level then to only make his Arsenal debut in the 8-2 mauling at Old Trafford when they we're already 5 or 6-1 down just shows he wasn't as good as he thought, get him in an England shirt where he seems to believe he should be EVERY game and let him take a few kicks and have the Spanish run him into the ground whilst running circles round him and he'll soon start to realise he should've been grateful for the chances we were giving him rather than swan off to Arsenal and learn to dive convincingly!
I think he should play. Why not? The midfield needs a serious overhaul and we need players who can actually move.
There isn't a selection policy based on which team you play for but it certainly makes picking someone a whole lot easier if a big club have already shelled out for you! A bit of sour-grapery going on here methinks. On one hand we're saying he's good enough but only gets picked now he's at Arsenal, on the other we're saying he's not good enough and Capello should look down the leagues. Well what if LaLa was in the squad? It'd be a sure thing that someone would then come in with a huge bid for him later! Be careful what you wish for and good luck Alex if it does happen!
Exactly, it's just unfortunate that players need to move to a fashionable club for England to acknowledge that they have something to offer. Chamberlain faces some pretty stiff competition from overseas to get in at Arsenal, so perthaps his standing there isn't representative of his England standing. Arsenal drafted that Carl Jenkinson lad into their team when they had a fullback crisis and he's doing alright after a shaky start. Hard to compare a defender with a winger/AM, but IMO Chamberlain is twice the player. It aint his fault that Wenger would rather use a disinterested foreigner like Arshavin (not tarring foreign players with the same brush, Arshavin really is disinterested!).
It shows that Wenger doesn't know what he's doing for me. You don't send on an 18 year old in the middlle of a thrashing. This post sounds pretty bitter - you'd never have thought we were top of the league.
I'm not bitter to the extent it came across, the only way I'm bitter is the fact he said he CAN perform at a higher level yet I don't actually see any proof as yet that he was telling the truth! Had he of stayed with us he would be sitting top of the league aswell and the way things are going a chance to prove he can play at the higher level next season, if we had put in a bad showing this season then I wouldn't have begrudged him leaving but the fact he never gave us a chance basically despite the fact we're going place shows no respect to the club and the people running it! I can't blame him for wanting to play at a higher level but had he of stayed he would be playing there with the club he says he loves within a year or 2. That being said Cortese done a fantastic job in getting the best possible price for him and we can't be disappointed with that
This tbh, really couldn't care less about England, especially in a friendly. I will follow them in the major tournaments and the qualifiers to a certain extent but never really that fussed when we inevitably go out as the team just simply isnt very good. And when Redknapp gets the job my caring about England will hit rock bottom.
