His record was pretty poor before he joined. I know some on here were excited but it all just smacked of desperation. It was obvious from moment one he was out of his depth
Yeah harsh to criticise Jones for tonight. We barely have a good enough squad to put out a decent enough team for 90 mins on any given Saturday. We definitely don't have a good enough squad to put out a decent team Saturday and then Tuesday for a cup game against top 4.
Yeah, and I stand by it. We did (do) have a good enough team to be 4 or 5 places above where we are in the league.
Don't think this squad is good enough to finish 12-14th. Either way since Jones joined we have slid down the table and aside from the Man City game we have looked far from impressive. Wolves game is going to be massive. Hopefully we don't forget to turn up again and help another struggling team relieve some pressure like we kindly did for Forest.
His team selection, formation and substitutions are weird. Only listened tonight but maybe the team spirit is better? Or maybe that’s just our version of the new manager bounce. I wanted to believe our squad could do much better, like the squad that was promoted under Adkins. But maybe this is it?
I think it was a mistake to appoint him and the evidence is that he hasn’t improved us in anyway, RH would probably have got the same points at minimum. Man City was a massive result, that’s pretty much his main point in credit. If we lose to Brentford and Wolves he shouldn’t continue here, but imo if we lose both of those it is already too late to save us from relegation so what do you do? Ok we have flashes of being good like tonight, but we were having those brief moments under RH too, I just don’t see anything at two months in.
We had a better squad last season. Since then we have effectively lost Tino and Stuie, and actually lost Broja, Romeu, Redmond, Bednarek. We’ve gained a load of young and inexperienced players. Our best of the new bunch; Lavia, Edozie, DCC, are not a significant improvement at all. Maybe equal in quality, but we’ve swapped experience for potential, which is disastrous in a relegation battle.
He’s a clown. Some of these quotes will be immortalised once he’s gone and we’re trying to claw our way back to the top table. We’re supposed to be encouraged because Newcastle are taller than us, apparently…
I'm still not convinced by him but I do kind of like him personally. He was going absolutely ****ing mental at Djneppo early in the game over his positioning. He's almost a bit of a throwback kind of manager imo, and I kind of like that as it feels nostalgic to me and allows me to pretend I still actually enjoy the sport.
Absolutely worse than last year, no question. Some of the signings we have made definitely have potential, hopefully they help to turn it around during the second half of the season. There is definitely a side in our squad that could be at least 4th worst in the PL this year... It may not be the 'reset' some are suggesting if we do go down, though. Whilst we could problably shift enough players to balance the books for a year or 2 We could easily fall in to the category of a Sunderland/ West Brom/ Stoke/ Norwich scenario with a bunch of overpaid average players. Particularly at our incredibly over stocked CB department where we could potentially have 6 of the championships biggest earners with: Bednarek, ABK, Salisu, Stephens, Lyanco and DCC. Worst aspect of all would be the almost inevitable loss of JWP who is basically the only good thing at the club.
Agree with all the above. Jones has somehow managed to make Che worse. At least we scored a couple of goals under Ralph. We barely look like scoring now. With NJ we just look a disorganised mess who will lose every week
Think Jones said ‘all my strikers score, I know I can make him better’ regards Che. That didn’t age well!
I expect any manager to have two of three traits: - Good tactically. - Good at motivating the players. - Not an insufferable dipshit. You can be an absolutely insufferable dipshit if you're good tactically and motivate players (at least temporarily): sure worked for Mourinho in his prime. And you can be good tactically while being a middling-to-poor motivator, or a good motivator while being a middling-to-poor tactician and still scrape by, so long as you aren't a complete clown show. Jones is an insufferable dipshit. If he were good tactically and had the team behind him, I could live with that. But, uh...
Bin him now. **** off the cup tie against Blackpool. No one really cares about that. Since we can't/won't get players the only thing we can change is the manager. I was chatting with mini Lincoln last night he said our last league home win was in August. I didn't believe him, I thought that couldn't be true but it is. ****ing August.
Not gonna happen though. We have him for the season now. What a silly decision. I reckon a good manager could get this squad firing now as well. Still, last night actually gave me some hope.
