I think in early January Jones talked about wanting to sign 3 or 4 players. Can't remember anything specific more recent than that.
We will be working on signings. Clubs will wait until the end of the window to let them go as things always come out of the woodwork. At this point of the window, we just need to white knuckle it through to deadline day and keep fingers and toes tightly crossed that we don't have a player change their mind at the very last minute as happened in the Summer. It might as these things happen and apportioning blame for that is tough because we are dealing with human beings
We don’t have a league game before the end of the window now so whatever damage the lack of signings have made to our league results has already been done. May aswell just sit back and wait now and go mental on the 1st of Feb when nobody turns up. Or Chuba Akpom
As Tom said, I hope Jackson was just a backup option if our preffered options don't come through. If he was a main target I would have thought we would have got it done a week or so ago when it seemed like something was happening. At least I hope thats the case otherwise we are incredibly inept.
The way I see it is SR have invested a lot and bought the football club. It is a business to them and a source of income/wealth growth. There is no way they would purposely try to get us relegated or on purpose not buy a striker. It may be an mis-judgement, but if they don't buy one it is part of a (IMO flawed) plan. We may not agree with it, but until we own the club, we have no say. All the ranting and shouting on a random football forum won't make a bit of difference. All it will do is raise your blood pressure and shorted your life. I am not saying ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ and say oh well, but realise that there is always more than meets the eye to all decisions made. Has anyone on here run a multi million pound business? Me neither. I think it is more complicated than you think, especially when you rely on these assets called players to gel and deliver to make you a profit. On top of that you have to try to please your customers that all think they know better than you. What other industry is that true in?
I agree, they have definitely invested and people saying they have been tight (annoyingly frequent) are wrong and somehow conflating with Gao. Where it is fair to criticise them is their decision making, because they do appear to be getting transfer strategy and arguably managerial recruitment dreadfully wrong.
Yeah, you do. But I’m still willing to give it time (and give Jones time, especially) before I judge. 18 games left in the PL btw
I'm guilty of being very twitchy about Jones - I still haven't seen anything really to think he's the right guy - but giving it a chance is the only real option we have. I don't have the reservations of some about SR though (except the Ankersen ego, and their appointment of NJ, which are intrinsically linked, give me some cause for concern).
Missed out on Gakpo dithering and haggling; now missed out on Jackson. Saints have a history of missing out on players and, regardless of whether these were top targets or not, our failure to sign a striker will cost us dearly
Yeah Gakpo was not for lack of trying and by the sounds of the Jackson deal, we didnt think he was worth the outlay. Those 2 individual deals aren't the issue. The issue is the board had the entire summer window and most of January to get us a striker, or someone whose goals and assists will keep us up, and they still haven't ****ing done it. That is the issue and it is going to cost us our place in the league.
