So disappointing. Can't fault the effort of the players tho. We need a goalscorer so bad

We did ok against a very good team.

Unless we get a player that can score easy 1on1’s we will continue to struggle.

    Absolutely sick of Groundhog Day.

Both this match and the Villa one, we make the substitutions and almost instantly gain the momentum for a decent spell... and then concede :(

You know damn well in classic Gabbiadini style (as well as a fair few others who I can’t think of right now) we will get someone, they’ll score 3 goals in 2 games and then get injured for the rest of the season.

They’re such a good team and so hard to score against. The fact that we broke through several times is promising, but we desperately need a striker

Better second half, but I think we were flattered by the scoreline. Should really have been 3-0.

Not to say we played badly. Newcastle are just brilliant, and that's that.

Lyanco was a twat for starting all the animosity.

There were some moments of promise but ultimately 1-0 is probably a flattering shoreline. Unlikely to overturn things but at least we‘re still in the tie.

Oh well. Tough tough team. Wish we had a striker.

We did well but were probably lucky only to be 1-0, but there are signs, so many signs of a great team in there. It's just needs to click. Surely it will click. It has to click. Right?!

Cant quite get my head round the need to play a CB as either LB/RB but maybe that's the future. Some kind of hybrid defence where the midfield are supposed to fill the hole? Sadly ofc the goal was pretty much a direct result of not having a left back.

The problem is, Newcastle don't concede goals. Even when playing against teams with strikers.

Just think it's Jones trying to shoehorn 3 CBs onto the pitch because of our vulnerability at set pieces. Again, this is another area we have suffered in, from letting Romeu leave. He was essentially a third CB a set pieces.

We did okay but can’t disguise the fact that had they been more clinical the tie would have been over before we created a chance.
I am guessing that Salisu was supposed to negate Almiron’s pace, and he actually had a decent game especially as Orsić gave him no protection.
Alcaraz looks the real deal for me. Can hold the ball, run it and looks for a forward pass. That one for Che was superb.
My Geordie neighbour was getting nervous second half, as we seemed to press more and unsettled their distribution.
They are cheating ****s though, especially their defence who were pulling and pushing all night, then falling over at the slightest touch.
Hope we get a strong ref for next week.
Reference VAR. Typically the first round of the competition it is used, we suffer from it, as the ref had disallowed their handball but not ours.

Maybe he didn't like being kicked all over the pitch and held by the collar by your players.

    Just saying.

Maybe winding them up put them off a bit? Do you think they would have played better or worse if we had been nice to them? I think we need more ****housery.
