i was merely trying to create an interesting topic of genuine substance that would generate interest on here as i do with all my topics -- nothing more tron

in generel on here i have been fairly complimentry to button as i am with most of the drivers , so i think in light of some of buttons mediochre qual performances i had a valid point -
relative to his competitive car that he has had all season and his decent race performances of late his qual performances have not allways been from the top drawer -

personally i feel JB shared this trait with brundle hence the point of my topic , button has admitted this is one aspect of his game that he needs to improve upon ( we have all heard him say it ) ,
just my opinion but i believe unless button does address this he will allways be on the back foot against alonso and vettel if the redbull and ferrari are competitive for the next couple of seasons --

to his credit he now has the measure of hamilton in race trim and there is every chance he will continue this next year , however vettel and alonso are not hamilton and for jenson to beat vettel and alonso in future WDCs he really need to maximise his chances on sunday afternoons by not putting himself at a disadvantage by what he does on a saturday afternoon ---
    ---------- just my opinion

If I was to describe Button in one word it would be 'composed'. He's not the quickest over one lap but he's always there or there abouts, and on Sundays his pace can be unrelenting and consistent. Mclaren have a good pairing at the moment and I hope it continues for a good few years yet.

is there really any need to interfere in things that have nothing to do with you cc , not to mention talking down to people in such a condescending fashion about non related trivia such as peoples spelling errors on here ,
we have all been round the block on here , myself as much as anybody and nobody likes been talked down to in such a condescending way about something as trivial as the odd spelling error that we all make on here --

you done the same thing to " eternal msc" a few nights ago and upset him and now you have an unprovoked pop at me , you are no better than anybody else on here so kindly give this kind of condescending garbage a rest as it does nothing for the good will and harmony on here --

in fact you could allways try contributing something F1 related to the board like a new topic instead of sniping at people like eternal msc and myself who are trying to contribute something of genuine F1 interest to others on here -

Pointing out that Button is not the greatest qualifier in the world is not exactly revolutionary, or something that hasn't been discussed before. Nor am I arguing that it's something that he could do with improving upon. What I was pointing out was that it is just one of many points about Jenson that have been done to death, and also pointing out the flaw in your logic regarding it being the reason why he might struggle to win another WDC, as (as I pointed out) that would only make sense if you thought that other drivers did not have a flaw that might hinder their chances, when in reality all drivers have their weaknesses and areas that they should work on.

The stats talk for themselves, and they backup your simple point that Jenson isn't the greatest qualifier. However, they don't backup your point about it holding him back in a championship battle, as even though he hasn't qualified as well as his very well respected team mate, they are still behind him in the championship standings. In fact, it's taken a very fast, bullet proof Red Bull, being driven by a very confident Vettel, who's clearly been given preferential treatment in his team, to beat Jenson this year tron.

    Easy tiger!
    :)

    • Firstly: my initial paragraph is a proper contribution to this thread and a compliment to you.
    • Secondly: I also find good grammar and punctuation easier to read, and therefore felt it reasonable to agree with an objection already raised by Sam which had been shot down in flames (rather rudely in my opinion) - by yourself.
    • Thirdly: your reference to some unrelated incident elsewhere (between myself and EMSC), is as much to do with you as my statement in this thread is to do with you and Sam isn't it?
    • Fourthly: I'm sorry you find my manner condescending; but it seems hypocritical of you to do the same thing you are objecting to!
I repeat; I also find it easier to read conventional grammar and therefore have a perfectly valid point, regardless of any objection from anyone else - but I'd not have joined in had you reacted more reasonably to Sam's objection in the first place!

maybe i missed something then tron --
agreed i have only been here for a couple of weeks but i have not noticed any previous topics on the qual similarities between brundle and button , you did realise that my topic was not just confined to button didnt you - in fact it was more the respect that brundle and button can / could / be mighty in race trim but there qual flaw did and will hamper there chances of further WDC glory -

as for the other drivers flaws that button will be in contention with , fair enough hamilton has more flaws than a chocolot tea pot at times , but has allways been decent qualifier ,
as for his other main competitors which will probally be vettel and alonso , qualifying pace for those two has never been an issue and we all know about there race pace -

i just think if button is to win another WDC he needs to address his qual weakness because against vettel and alonso he will need to have every aspect of his game in good shape , which was the gist of my initial point

if my topic has somehow upset you tron which it seems it has , have a few lugs on the old bubble pipe mate as life is far to short to get upset about my harmless ramblings --

i really cant be bothered with this kind of trivial silly garbage cc , this is just the sort of thing that ruined the old bbc 606 , thankfully the bbc dropped a bomb on the whole sorry lot ,

i am only here for intelligent formula 1 debate and hopefully humourous banter along the way , i am not and never have been and never will be so pathetic as to pull other members on there spelling errors on here especially if like myself said members are making a real effort to contribute intelligent and thought provoking F1 topics and related posts -
------ forget about the junior school prefect rubbish when you post to me and we will get along just fine ---

The only thing that might annoy me is your patronising tone, but other than that your inability to comprehend the simple point that other drivers have weaknesses, not just Button is quite mind boggling. I'm not sure if you're just being intentionality blind to this point.

Vettel and Alonso? Vettel has been a great this year, and does seem to excel at qualifying, but your must realise that he is not always perfect (he made last year's championship incredibly hard work even with all the advantages that his car afforded him) and no points are awarded on Saturday? Which is probably as well for Alonso who's been out qualified by his mediocre team-mate more oft than not in the last few races! :-/

I must admit, you can colour me confused when you say that the point about Button's qualifying not being a well know and discussed topic, after you make a point of saying that Jenson has mentioned it himself. Do you think that he just said that to someone passing by in case he thought that they cared? Or was it because it's something that has been talked about an awful lot for quite some time? :-/

You can make "witty" comments about bubble pipes, and pretend that no one has ever talked about this at all, all you like. You're not kidding anyone though.

I'll help you out a little with Vettel and Alonso though. The real advantage that they both have over Button (and Hamilton) is that they are clear team No 1s, so more of their teams' resources are behind them, as is the fine tuning of their cars' designs and team strategies.

You can have that one for free ;-)

See how annoying it is when people write comments with a patronising tone?

To be fair to Cosi, the original posters comment was atrocious and not at all easy to understand. That someone took the time to try to interpret it and make it readable was a good thing. How the situation was handled is open to interpretation though.

Atrocious in terms of readability I mean, by the way. I know that my comments aren't exactly perfect, and maybe English isn't their first language, but poorly formatted comments can be hard work.

I think that the issue JB suffers from is his inability to make the tyres work over one lap. Maybe McLaren should send him out in qualifying, fueled to put in a stint of 2-3 hot laps, give the guy some time to heat his tyres up a bit. It's common knowledge he's better on his tyres than any other driver.

Hey - martial's spell checker seems to have suddenly started working! (Ducks to avoid retaliatory bile)

Isn't the original point undermined by KERS, DRS and tyres, meaning that grid positions now are not as critical as they were in Brundle's day.

Well, if that's not condescending (as well as patronising), I don't know what is.
You say you come here for intelligent debate but attack someone who makes a polite request (rather than ignoring it or responding reasonably with some explanation); and then behave like a spoiled child at junior school, who cries at the slightest disagreement - unwilling (or incapable) of complying with a simple request!

P.S. I have not objected to your spelling even once! And if you didn't react so badly to Sam's polite request in the first place, we'd be getting along just fine in this thread wouldn't we (?)…

OK boys lets please take 5 - days ideally ----- and cool down.

I am as guilty as the rest in sometimes firing off hasty missives and not putting the time in to format and describe the point more carefully.

However there is no need to alienate over it. Please just let it lie.
(my excuse is also a bouncy laptop keyboard which means I don't always notice problems with my typing !!! ) <laugh>

I'm glad somebody is using some facts and figures. Clearly it's that last 0.05 seconds that seperate the ordinary world champions from the truly legendary super duper World Champions. Just like it's the amount of crashes you have that mark you out as the best overtaker in F1.

If Jenson had qualified better in 2010 then he would have had a better shout at the 2010 WDC as too many times he was in teh midfield and struggling to get out.

This year it wouldn't have made that much difference such is the superiority of Vettlel/Red Bull.

As I see it, his quali may have cost him a shot at the 2010 WDC, but he won the 2009 WDC in his first true year in a top car and this year, as above, who can say that anything anyone could have done would have stopped the Velttel finger from raising its annoying point into the sky?

So its cost him possible just one WDC so far. Is not really conclusive evidence that. He needs to lose a few more WDC's before it can be considered a failing of his that has cost him WDC's.

With a new McLaren contract in his pocket he does have the chance to show whether he can do it or not.

oh dear --- it seems my harmless topic has struck a nerve , when you say my topic is only stating the obvious how else do you want me to explain my motives to you except to explain it ABC fashion to you ,
--------- as i said you did actually realise my topic was about brundle and button and not just button -

i am sorry if my topic somehow upset your button infatuation but that is your problem and not mine , you cant expect people like myself who are only trying to create interesting and thought provoking topics for the enjoyment of everybody to be aware of everybodys delicate personal favourite driver senseabilities -

as i said have a few lugs on the old bubble pipe mate and just enjoy the forum for the enjoyment it can bring to everybody ---
trust me the people here are alot more intelligent than some of the clowns on the old bbc 606 -

give it a rest cc its starting to get boring , it is very rude and ignorant to ask anybody on here to put there topics in capital letters because of my odd spelling error and speaking for myself i would never be that rude or ignorant to ever ask anybody on here to do that ,
what can anybody glean from a topic that is wrote in capital letters that they cannot glean from a topic that is not --

i never asked you to interfere , you just took it upon yourself to do so , try minding your buisness in future and this kind of pathetic garbage will be avoided -

it really does not help the harmony on here when you make snidey comments about a fellow members formating of a topic to other members --- you might not agree with me about button but try and not lower yourself to become one of the junior school prefects on here --

what exactly is it you could not understand about my topic --

    Give it a rest.
I have never ever ever ever criticized your spelling. Get it yet? And I'm not interested in whether you asked me to contribute. This is a public forum and I do not need your permission, even if it is your own thread.

Now give it a rest. You are becoming a real bore about this.
