Don’t get sucked into it, fans thought Doherty turned a corner because he had 5 good games last season.
It's probably Kulusevski returning to the side that has improved him. Opposition teams are far more cautious down that flank when he plays, and he also has a ready and willing out ball. City did everything down the opposite flank while most of Fulham's best crosses came from their right flank. Two solid performances though can't knock that, but I really hope Spence starts on Saturday. If he doesn't, the fact that he still hasn't gone out on loan is a disgrace.
According to an Italian journo, Bentancur and Kulusevski could face up to a month’s ban if found guilty of accepting falsely lower wages at Juve. Let the good times roll.
Marco Conterio says we’re trying to hijack Everton’s move for Danjuma at the last minute. If this happens then Gil’s even more ****ed… Edit: Pete O’Rourke saying similar. Edit again: Romano and Gold now too.
Very underwhelming signing tbh. He clearly wasn't PL standard when he was at B'mouth, although he did reasonably well for them in the Championship. I'd imagine he's now choosing between higher wage + bench for us over lower wage + regular starter for Everton, but as you say - no idea how he improves on Gil as an option off the bench. Ultimately this isn't an area we are desperate to add to right now and I am gobsmacked we haven't given even the slightest impression of being interested in upgrading at CB.
I'm calling BS on this on a technicality: Danjuma's been linked with us at least once per week since mid-December, so it's hardly us hijacking a move
I think it’s relatively sensible. He covers us for the rest of the season when we’re in a position where we had only 1 attacker on the bench last night. We badly need cover if Lucas is still broken and Gil is struggling with a knock, he would have been on the bench last night if he was fit surely.
Done his medical with Everton last night, lol. We’ve Gudjohnsen’d them by the sounds of things. Gold’s just said he’s on his way to Hotspur Way.
It does beg the question if we'd been in contact with Danjuma prior to Everton making their move, though There's certainly stories from over a week ago about our interest...and also questioning why he of all players would be a target as the No Man's Land between our CMs and front line has been obvious since, oh I don't know, October? The good news is this probably means Zaniolo is off
True. I also think Kulu is more injury-prone than we care to admit. Although it should be said that most of Danjuma's appearances for Villareal were either as a lone striker or coming in from the left wing, which is Son/Richarlison territory. He very rarely ever played on the right.
This does feel sensible though. He’s experienced English football, played CL, and we might have a buy option too if he smashes it.
It does and it doesn’t to me. This signing only further ruins Gil’s chances of playing, I can only hope we loan him out as Conte’s killing the promising players at the club, not only is he not or barely playing them but he’s reluctant to let them go on loan, then complains young players need to be first team ready in order to play… it’s so bloody warped. As for Danjuma, it all depends on the plan. Does he usurp Richarlison in the LW pecking order? Does he even get a start ahead of Son at the moment considering Sonny looks like he’s never played football before? Or is he simply going to be sitting on the bench between now and the end of the season with one or two 5 minute cameos to his name? Because if it’s the latter, then just what is the point? I can only presume there’s been some guarantees in talks because despite Everton’s plight, he’d be mad picking weeks on the bench over guaranteed starts.
There's also the possibility of Champions League football compared to a relegation battle. He also has no way of knowing what his position at Everton would be, as they don't have a manager. London over Merseyside? Quite a lot of factors, really. I'd prefer a left wingback and shifting Perisic up the pitch, to be honest. Adding depth to an already strong position seems unnecessary. Our bench has been looking very anaemic in attack recently, though.
Well if we had any sense, we'd recall Reguilon and get a 'new' LWB who knows the club, knows the system, knows the league and is a better option that the current incumbents. But we don't, so we won't. I think CB and GK are a matter of urgency, as is RWB. Talks with Porro are apparently back on in a strong way, and I think we'll get Raya over the line but probably only joining in the summer. If we could do the same with at least one top CB, that spares us a significant headache in July.
Skriniar, Ndicka and Grimaldo are all free in the summer. Sort out their contracts now, bung their clubs a few quid and it's sorted. Do I get the job, Daniel? I hear there's a vacancy opening up...
