arsenal have spent the longest consecutive time in the top division (just over 100 years) and only arsenal have been in the top flight without relegation for longer than everton, but in terms of number of seasons in the top tier, it's everton.
When Sunderland were relegated in 1958 they had completed 67 consecutive seasons in the top flight, still second to Arsenal overall but the most at that time. Sunderland were the last team who had never been relegated when they went down in 1958.
Shoddy, Accrington have not won in Hull since Stanley Baldwin was PM, their one and only victory in Hull. The views expressed in my posts are not necessarily mine.
ta. i did mean that everton have been in the top division for a period only second to arsenal out of current top tier teams. i make everton's current run 69 seasons, but i may have got it wrong.
Everton have been in the top flight for more seasons than anyone else, 120. Arsenal are fourth having been in the top division for 106.Aston Villa are second, Liverpool third. The longest period without being relegated is Arsenal. Cannot see that altering any time soon. https://www.myfootballfacts.com/england_footy/football-league/seasons-in-top-flight/
arsenals promotion in 1915 despite being level on points with us and 4 points behind barnsley is a disgrace
It was an election to the First Division when they re-organised after the war. The decision to not relegate Chelsea but relegate Tottenham and promote Arsenal along with the top two teams led to the long term hostility between the two. How those voting figures were arrived at and why must have been the subject of a lot of speculation. The fairest thing would have to kept all the teams in an just promoted the top two. Though I am sure no one in Hull would have objected if City had won the most votes.
I think it could be someone unexpected who had a long career at a number of clubs, like Craig Bellamy or Kevin Philips. They will have played against a lot of different ones with promoted clubs. Unless it is only the current 20 grounds in which case that is a bollox bit of reasoning.
I heard that (but not really listening) in the commentary of the Fulham vs Tottenham game, so i guess it was one of their players.
