I appreciate this is stating the obvious but I think people sometimes forget… Football is an unusually low scoring game v the the chances required to score. It means the ‘better’ side doesn’t always win. I get that you can argue you’re not ‘better’ if you gift goals away etc, but the point remains the same. I think Aski highlighted Leeds at man city the last two years. One we won 2-1 with 2 shots to their 29. One we lost 7-0 with not dissimilar stats. Anybody involved in sport/coaching knows you can’t control results, you can only influence them with your formation, style, selections and subs…. But it’s still only the performances you can impact. The more good performances, the better the chances of good results. Keyword is ‘chances’ of a result. The xg table is a pretty fair representation to how your team is doing in terms of chances for and against. It’s actually a good predictor of sides who’ve been ‘unlucky’ and ‘lucky’. I used it to predict Leicester and wolves might struggle this year. And to tell everyone that West Brom and boro were good shouts for a play off place when they were in the bottom 3 this year… We’re 12th in the xg table… when you consider the chances we’ve gifted to sides it’s fair to say we would likely be higher without the defensive calamities. So you could say that our ‘coach’ is coaching us to midtable… our luck/players have us fighting relegation. I’m not actually saying that… but I’m going to repeat, the coach can only control performances not results.
That's a coincidence i ordered some new glasses yesterday. Maybe they will give me a whole new outlook.
I have no agenda against him at all, just don’t share your blind faith in him or your optimism based on the evidence of his results. He starts winning games and I happily shut up. He doesn’t I don’t. Pretty simple really.
No blind faith from me i just want the lads to suceed in spite of his tactics. Let's face it Brentford came and played to a plan to get a point and it worked for them. Too many back heels and bad passes around the box for my liking by Leeds.
Just a small point Emu he’s not good enough because he’s not winning games, start winning and he’ll be fine. Still don’t like the guy and don’t think he’s right for us but we are stuck with him
When Jesse starts winning some games and puts the team mid table I’ll give him credit too. The real difference is the board did what you’d hoped they’d do, Jesses hasn’t still.
Good post milky but have to disagree a little bit. Great managers simply will not countenance defeat so therefore they do control results. Not fully of course but many a top team plays dreadful and wins and that old red nose scum bastard even won the League with possibly the worst PL squad ever to do so. Then we can come on to how they control officials, media and even the FA sometimes to give themselves an even better chance of winning.
Well since you went full time on the forum your posts have improved to be fair. Hopefully you're on Ell's commission scheme for all your efforts.
