Does he mean help with set pieces defensively? Weren't we **** at defending those even with Bednarek and before Jones?
There isn't just one problem. There are many. So therefore there is not just a single solution. Getting Bednarek at least gives us another option to tackle one of the problems. Him and Salisu didn't work well together last season, but maybe he will forge a better partnership with DCC. One thing we know, is that something has to be done, because the set-piece situation is f*cking us. One or two of our current center backs isn't pulling his weight when it comes to defending set pieces. Bednarek has his faults for sure, but he will throw himself in front of a train to make a clearance or win a header.
I bet the reason we didn't recall him earlier in the window was because we didn't want Villa getting someone else in on loan before our game.
I guess that’s the positive spin. Unfortunately I remember just how bad he was before he left. He also hasn’t payed for villa, except against Stevenage which was a defeat. I can’t see this solving anything really. Say we bring him in for Lyanco.. we’ve just replaced one liability with another liability a lot will depend on if he’s sorted his attitude out. If he wants to be here then he can be OK.
There's no doubt it's a huge gamble from Jones. It's a huge test of his ability as a man manager, firstly getting Bednarek on side and secondly getting performances out of him. I have no idea what sort of reception Bednarek will get when he next plays for Saints but if he doesn't play well or shows any lack of effort the fans will turn on him quickly. And Jones will cop the blame from the fans for bringing him back in the first place, even if it was SR's idea. So, in short, Jones needs this to work out.
For me, the fans were pretty good on Saturday. Genuinely feels like people are starting to realise we need to get behind the team as much as we can. Hopefully that continues. Even though bednarek has been a cock, he will need full support
I think deep down Janny B's a good guy. He has always been committed and passionate, and became one of our leaders in recent years. Seems like he got a bit fed up with things under Ralph, and unfortunately the fans on social media gave him a lot of unnecessary sh*t. He tried to get back at them with his big club jibe, which was a bit childish, but there you go. If he becomes the player he was a couple of seasons ago, then he'll be our best centre back.
