I think it is Anfield is not a fortress and we should have taken more points at home but we have not. can't rely on our away form and can't rely on our home form.
Fair enough but it's a bit strong to suggest that our form is worse than that of Roys!! I'm as frustrated that we can't finish teams off as anyone else (or when we don't turn up ala Spurs) but to suggest we are no better off from the muppet show would be folly!
We play a lot better that is for sure and we create chances, another for sure. But we have no end product and hitting the woodwork already 10 times this season is crazy as well. I am worried that it is a mental thing and all this we have had a solid start, unbeaten in 8, but Spurs are pulling away, Arsenal have caught up, Newcastle are still there ( for how long we shall see). It must get into the players heads a bit and make them even more nervous or worried about dropping results as well! I think Kenny has a big mental hump he has to somehow get the boys over, especially Downing who has just gone right down the drain in confidence!
The most frustrating thing for me about our home results is in 3 of the 4 draws we've been winning the game 1-0 then conceded silly goals each time and ended up drawing.
dont get me wrong here , i was leading the calls for kenny to be given the job before roy was even mentioned and i still have faith in kenny but he needs to have a serious look at the team and find out why after spending 100million (or 40 net as so many people are saying) we are only 4 points better off than last season
The good thing is that we know Downing has the ability after the start he made. The woodwork is not the issue though - our finishing has been poor in general....I include Suarez here despite his all round excellent play.....and it isn't confidence either - it's been poor from the opening day against Sunderland......Fix that and we fix 80% of our problems
I added hitting the bar as it shows our lack of finsihing chances. Our finishing is really dire although I am not sure why Bellamy hasn't been given a run of a few games as when he has come on has he not scored or created an oppurutunity in every game?
Agreed; he's been a handful and I'd prefer to see him playing than sitting on the bench at times like this.
I mean we continue to give Downing and Carroll chance after chance but why not go with some hardworkers like Kuyt and Bellamy, especially bellamy as if he hits form, you know he will score. Might just be the kick in the ass that Downing and Carroll need as well.
Been very dissappointed with Downing, at 27 and having played in the Prem for just about all his career, he should be able to play to the standard that is expected. With Henderson and Carroll, despite their over inflated prices, you can afford to give them at least a season or two due to the fact both are still young and are likely to improve. But Downing is different, he was bought for now not the next 4-5 years. Lets be honest if most of us had been in charge of the club and Villa has come back asking for £20mil how many would have gone through with the buy? I would think most of us would have looked else where and gone for a younger player or someone who wasnt priced so high.
Am not disagreeing with the obvious use of the squad at all. In fact, imo, Kuyt has been one of the most under-rated players in the EPL.....defenders hate to play against him.
Also, not saying our finsihing could have been better ( usually these saves are in the last 10 minutes as well) but it seems every team we have played against their keeper has been phenomenal. I think of the Stoke double save, Norwich at the death with Suarez volley, Vorm all day on the weekend, De Gea came up big on some saves. The highlight reel of the GK who have played against us must be fantastic!
See, this is the reason why I didn't want Kenny to get the manager's job. Only I DID want him to get the job, yet... In the back of my mind I kept thinking 'What if it doesn't turn out to be as we hoped or even expected?' And here we are and it's only November and a lot of us have doubts and are questioning KD's tactics! Yet look, we had a **** pre-season all things considered, and results aren't quite going our way when they ought to. Already there are fools on Twitter calling for him to be sacked. That's going too far atm...however... Our expectations have been high for a very good reason. Only Sod's bloody law being what it is...
Like all our managers (except Roy) Kenny will be given time. I think we expected too much to soon from him and need to take a step back and realise it will take time. At the end of the day the squad is better and we play some good footy, it's a start.
I think the biggest thing is the $$$ spent. The figures we threw around and where we are, it just doesn't look good. media already calling half of them Kop Flops. I think that massive expenditure and we are not in the top 4 at the moment, we are easy targets and it frustrates us.
Thats why Kennys being criticised, and should be critised MONEY If Kenny had been given no money in the summer, I and many others wouldnt be giving him a hard time now. The fact is , he was given a pretty tidy budget, way more of a net spend than Arsenal and Spurs, and it is beginning to look like hes made a bit of a dogs dinner of spending the money he has had,and wasted it on overpriced Brits
i completely agree with you. bought the wrong players. KK ia at best a crisis manager. now we need a modern manager with today football ideas.
