Yep, mental. I thought prowsey had a really good game today as well playing further forward. But by him being forward we had to play Diallo who I thought was a total liability. Nearly gave villa about 3 or 4 easy chances. He would press well but then play it straight into danger
I didn't think Prowsey was great at all today really but I agree on your other point and made a similar one earlier. Diallo can only play as part of a 3 imo.
Villa were exactly what Emery said they were. Good defensively but goal shy up front. Having said that, we didn’t put a great deal of pressure on their back line. No way should our goal have been disallowed and someone really needs to sit down with the referees and explain to them that some body contact is within the rules of the game and shouldn’t automatically be considered a foul. And as someone has already said, when the VAR ref suggests that the on field ref should look at the screen they are effectively telling him that, in their opinion, he has made an error. It’s time for a ref to take a look at the screen and tell the VAR ref to “**** off, I got it right” instead of meekly changing his mind all the time.
Wonder why we signed orsic and alcaraz if they can’t even get into the side. We need players to come in and lift us to safety not more people to warm the bench. We don’t need to play 5 at the back with the same line up that’s been losing all season. How many times do the same players need to prove they aren’t good enough?
Absofucklutely I just don’t get it. It wasn’t clear & obvious. Marginal at best & the ref allowed. VAR has lost the plot & is ruining the game. It was brought in the eliminate “Gabbiadini” type issues not this ****.
We did have bad luck today but we didn’t really deserve to win on the balance of play anyway. When you can only pull 3 points from 15 playing against the sides in 6th, 7th, 11th, 13th and 19th then you are simply not good enough overall and everything else becomes a petty excuse.
Imo VAR is a sensible thing to have, but ultimately when you have the same dogshit quality officials manning the controls it’s quality will be hampered.
Yes we need a better striker but our midfield is far from being great. When you have a midfield 3 of Lavia*, Diallo and JWP, you have no one to run the ball forward, you have no one who can beat a player and they aren’t great at picking out defence splitting passes. I am hoping that Alcaraz will at least offer us the ball running part of what is missing as we desperately need someone who can create space by beating a player and drawing others out of position. And when you add into the mix Adarma who works hard but creates nothing we have a genuine lack of creativity in the team, especially without a fit Stuart Armstrong. * yes I get that Lavia is supposed to be the holding midfielder, but today he was playing in a two, which gives him scope to roam a bit, but also, IMO, makes him less effective as a player. I think we will get the best out of him as a sole defensive midfielder, just sitting in front of the CBS.
Yep, agreed. Combine that with a defence that like to give the ball away and a goalkeeper that instils as much confidence as a boat with a hole in it and you have a recipe for going down. I do still think the manager tactically didn’t help today as well though
We've got a really **** goalie We've got a quite **** defence We've got a **** midfield (JWP aside) We've got strikers who wouldn't get a game in any other PL side We've got an appalling gamble of a manager. We're 100% where we deserve to be. And it's all pretty much SR's fault.
i thought Villa were by far the better side 1st half. 2nd half looked pretty even to me but we of course conceded from a set piece again. Not sure the point of buying players in if they cannot displace any of the 11 who have put us bottom of the league
yeah, I would describe us as toothless today but definately in it. Where are the goals going to come from with Che as a lone striker? Adarma, KWP, Edozie, Lyanco, JWP, Lavia, DCC, Salisu all decent but just created nothing really. In reality we were no worse than Villa but clearly unluckier.
We were worse than villa, never looked like getting a goal after the disallowed goal. Adam Armstrong is not a PL player. He’s clearly very fit and has pace, but his first touch is dreadful. He runs up and down in the same position on the pitch he was put in. There’s no link up play. Edozie offered the most threat, especially early in the first half. We weren’t as bad as I have seen us (last game I went to was Newcastle), but we don’t deserve to be in this league.
This was the run of fixtures which we needed to show something. If you look at the upcoming games it’s going to be very tough. Time to get the wallet out Dragan
Despite the gloom, I'm still of the opinion we will get out from this. Agreed, some of our play was not good, I thought at one stage, did AV supply the ref as well but compared to the BHA game it was a better performance, but today, I agree, it needed more than that. One thing does stick in my mind is that we must get these new signings earning their keep. Not sure why there's a reluctance to us them and earlier too.
