I am amazed that no one ahs started this yet but with so many people injured at the moment i was quite happy to look at the players we are left with and build imo a strong team for the city game.

We've talked about it in another thread I think, but the idea of Santon on the right could be good.
I don't wanna play with 2 up front, think we need to pack the midfield and attempt to take control of the game that way. Stack the midfield, nick it by a goal, and then defend like mad.

^^^ I prefer that. Obviously it would be better if we had Cabaye too though, instead of Gosling

Ben Arfa won't be as effective on the right but we probably won't have much choice!

 

I'd prefer Cabaye in there too but he looks a doubt. My thinking is if we play 2 holding players it'll give Ben Arfa a bit more of a licence to roam around as Tiote/Gosling can help cover Simpson.

I wouldn't want Santon on the wing at all. It's madness. The guy is still struggling to get used to the EPL, so the worst possible thing to do is swap him to a completely different side and a completely different position before he's barely had a match worth of gametime at left back. He suffered badly at Inter when he kept getting swapped from side to side, so we don't want to do it again here.

 

We can't play HBA on the right wing, he won't defend enough. The only way he can play there is if we start three centre mids and have a lone striker.

Who's to say he's gonna be a left back here? He's come on once in the league and that was at right back, he's a right wing back really.

You could always look at it a different way in that it can also get him used to the rough and tumble of the league without as many defensive responsibilities, get the boy some confidence back because he's got speed and skill. It's not like we'd be putting him there every other game or something, it's the thing about our squad, we're thin on the right side and I honestly can't see any better options really. Sammy's left footed, Marv is left footed and now injured. I'd rather he was out there than Gosling or Guthrie, at least we'd retain a little bit of width and Simpson won't be left exposed.

I suppose when it comes down to it I don't really know and that's why I'm not Toon manager.

 

Pardew. Countless times. He was brought in as a direct replacement for Enrique, but so far, Raylor has kept him out.

If Pardew has stuck to what he wants to do, then we can't go chopping and choosing, especially in this very fragile stage. We need to find his natural position and work him into it. Once he's comfortable there, then maybe we can try out other areas. I just know that he was swapped from left to right at Inter and it really hampered his form.

 

I've not heard Pardew say that but I might have missed it. He came through as a RB but he has actually played more games at LB in his career, marginally.
