It’s sickening that we have got to the point in history where a local rival who in all our years supporting our club have never been considered even close to our equal are now able to come and pluck the best of our talent from under our noses.
Personally think Dieng is an exceptional keeper and it will be bad news if he goes. Can’t think of many positives about our club at the moment - all doom and gloom from the club and fans.
He has 18 months on his contract (June 2024). The stats/transfer sites (no idea where they get the info) value him at about €2m plus or minus 25%. He’s worth what another club will pay and what we will accept. We won’t know but I’m guessing less than £10m by a long way.
10mill! No chance of that..clubs have always came in and taken our players for derisory amounts..I'm hoping they hold out for what they want, but I don't have a lot faith in the hierarchy playing hard ball, they wouldn't know how to.
The speculation I saw on Dieng was him being linked to a Summer move to interested Brighton, Brentford and Totteringham, for the little that is worth.
The problem is we never renew when a player is attracting interest and often they leave for piddling amounts. Willock will go for a lot less than we know he is worth. Dieng should have had a contract extension last season when he began attracting interest, we'll probably sell for £2-3 million with add-ons. Chair is our best asset but expect him to go at the end of the season, I wouldn't be surprised if Rangers come in for him. We'll be lucky to get £8-10 million. Get used to it, we're a selling club and we really don't have much to offer...
You can only extend contracts if both sides want to. I'd be confident we made him an offer, but it obviously wasn't enough. If there was already interest he'd know what he could earn elsewhere.
I couldn't and wouldn't blame any player for leaving QPR for a club either in a higher division or showing ambition of wanting to do so. They could most likely double their wage in the process. As stated above, we are a selling club, happy to cash in on any assets we may produce or develop. That is the ambition of this club, to make money on players. As it stands now, I don't think we have a player worth more than around 5m tops.
I think we have lots of valuable assets. Very average players go for huge amounts these days but our club seems to be unable to do this. Have we got the right people in place? I’m starting to think not.
"Very average players" in the Championship weren't going for huge amounts in the last window. Most such players were going for no fee at all, only top players at mostly the yo yo Championship Clubs were going for plus 6 figure sums. The market looked to have crashed below the PL and I doubt it will have changed much for the current window.
Part of me longs for us to be run incorrectly again, at least the board had some ambition then and we the fans had something to look forward to. We had aspirations of Champions League football , we had exotic players from around the globe and some hope of actually achieving something. OK it was swiftly crushed by the inept appointments of the board, and we paid a heavy price. But what aspirations do the board and most fans have now ? Mid table obscurity in the Championship each season as we flog our best players and replace them with dross or loanees, while our most exotic player is Hamalainen ! ****ing happy days
