12m Is a steal for villas top scorer. Would happily pay the 15m to give us the best chance of staying up
Obviously if he doesn't want to return theres nothing we can do about it, not to mention West Ham will pay him more than us. But if he goes for anything like that price I hope we are all over it. In fact if he goes for anything like that price half the league should be after him really considering the amount of teams in need of a striker.
It will be wages that are the issue I expect in the case of Ings. West Ham can afford the risk of it not working out and having someone on high wages sitting on the bench
Yep. West Ham's chances of going down see significantly worse than ours too. As I mentioned the other day I'd take him on an 18 month deal with a relegation clause but I don't see why he'd accept that when he's bound to have other offers.
Ings talk is a total nonsense. As I’ve said before absolutely no way he would come back and I for one don’t want him. Flabbergasted that he didn’t even see fit to say anything to the fans when he buggered off to win the champions league.
In fairness to Ings though, Villa's underwhelming position in the league isn't for the lack of ambition. They've spent enough money on players since Ings joined them to be challenging for Europe. They just happened to get the wrong manager in last season. Comparing their spending ability to Saints-under-Gao, it was a total mismatch. And it's not like Ings is a youngster. He had one last shot at making it at a club with a realistic shot at silverware. Because we sure as hell weren't looking like being that club.
At £12m, and presuming he signs at least a 2.5 year deal with West Ham, you're looking at a total commitment of probably £30m over that span, including bonuses and signing-on fees. You also have basically zero chance of selling him on for anything. Worth it if he produces, but there are only so many more injuries those legs can absorb before he gets a bit Diego Costa-y.
