    2 fit strikers for tonight.

Has to surely either play carvahlo left wing or stick doak on the right, Gakpo on the left and put Salah up top.

Ox hasn’t done anything at left wing, and doak will at least bring some speed and running.

Ox can play CM with Keita and one other

Ox and Keita in midfield, doesn't that sound fun.

Or go 442 and play for pens ;)

seriously though, he needs to look through systems.

41212 is an option. 451 is an option with gakpo left. 442 straight is an option. 4411 is an option. 4231 is still an option.

    alisson
    Gomez Matip konate Robertson
    Trent Milner Kieta Tsimikas
    Salah Gakpo

(just one extreme, sub in elliott as RM and carvalho as LW for example to tone that down)

    Alisson
    Gomez Matip konate Robertson
    Fabinho
    Trent Keita
    elliott
    Salah Gakpo

(again sub in whoever bar ox)

    Alisson
    Trent Gomez Konate Robertson
    Elliott Henderson Fabinho keita Gakpo
    Salah

Again this might be more conventional

    Alisson
    Trent Gomez Konate robertson
Fabinho henderson (don't like this )
Elliott Carvalho Gakpo (klopp will never pick this)
    Salah

the 4231 is far more attacking and i doubt it "gets back to basics"

I am at the point where that 442 with the two full backs in midfield actually appeals to me. you've kids to come on wide if we had even the barest bit of confidence.

I am consistently trying to drop the old men in midfield as much as possible and drop ox totally after that stink of a show on saturday.

what i have seen from keita consistently is urgency to be in the shop window so i'd be delighted to start him and at least get some work out of him.

We also need to remember wolves played a league cup game last midweek and have to be slightly suffering.

Yeah. Not looking forward to Matheus Nunes making me wonder why we didn't sign him.

Just looking at an article in the Athletic. We all know that we've been terrible in defence, but our finishing has been equally as poor and its not all down to Darwin.

"Despite their problems this season, Liverpool have still had 60 ‘big chances’ — classed by Opta as a situation where a player is reasonably expected to score. They are second only to champions Manchester City.

Yet Liverpool have only scored 16 of those big chances. This gives them a big-chance conversion rate of 26.7 per cent — the second worst in the division after Leicester City."

I think we need to go to 4-4-2 to win the midfield battle and also play more of a counter attacking style. Teams set up to have less possession against us and play on the break and we keep playing right into their hands with our high line.

    Kelleher
    Taa Gomez Konate Tsimikas

no just pointing out that the manager (or a new manager who was recently hired in said game) would have a huge amount of options out of the players available.

Klopp was having a mini whinge about having 2 strikers. He actually baout a 37mil forward in the window and has 3 injuries that are longer term so he's got lots of options others don't have.

He's got a fortune in **** midfielders nobody would want at another club. AND he's got 3 cbs and laods of full backs so he needs to just get on with it imo.

Back to basics, i'm all for it.

a bore 0-0 with pens would suit me as starting point tonight.

its only slightly better than expecting a 0-4 loss and taking a 0-3 cos getting run through was absolutely inevitable.

its darkest before the dawn as they say.

Lets see a couple hard working but seriously underwhelming bore draws in the next two games and then build on top of that.

And yes. fa cup and cheslea games are likely write offs.

we have wolves and then everton and then newcastle away after that. these are the games we need to build up to. Games where 0-0 is a likely outcome if we stop throwing in goals so we need to add back in goal threat after fixing the basics.

In 4 weeks time we play real madrid at anfield. that'll be the season over game if we don't get going at this job.

this is probably the formation that klopp goes with based on the fact he doesn't seem willing to change very much but the formation with ox v brighton did look 442 but i simply couldn't tell if ox was being lazy as sin or trying to sit deep and narrow as qausi LW. he looks a LCM to me with thiago advanced.

The fact that henderson never helped trent once kind of rules out the 442 first half though. I think ox just stank the place out.

I actually don’t mind ox and Naby in midfield.

Naby can play LCM well, and sit deep alongside next to the DM to provide more stability.

Ox has the legs to cover ground at RCM. I’m surprised Klopp hasn’t used him more in this role. Front 3 clearly doesn’t suit him

Ox didn't have any legs against Brighton. Clearly want interested at all and didn't try at all.

I think its important to see Keita is trying and injecting some urgency each time he is subbed on.

I'd personally just go with that.

On the same basis ox has sarted 6 or 7 and been pish or not even tried now.

Based on the alternative i'm shocked to say that I agree. Neither can defend though so our back line is still going to be exposed.

Would go with Keita and Jones, both inject much needed energy and try to make things happen
