What has happened with Thalisson. Reported we signed him but nothing said since. Just a rumour?

Latvian U19 squad but no appearances? That's a random thing to be listed on there.

Does that perhaps explain a work permit? I'm hardly an immigration lawyer but I'm surprised he qualifies for a work permit based on his career so far.

Might explain the Sorensen at CB experiment from the training videos. Are we really going with Hanley, Gibson, Omobamidele as our only proper CBs for the rest of the season?

I understand wanting him to get some first team football but we do look a bit light at CB with the option you said. Is Byram also considered an option at CB after he played there last season. Does Brad Hills step into that 4th CB role?

Makes excellent sense looking ahead to next season. For the remainder of this season, SuperMac only needs to pull on Gibson's shirt and, hey presto!, problem solved.

Jayden Warner is the other CB option I guess

I agree that this is clearly planning for next season.

I think it’s overall sensible. If we have serious injuries to two of Hanley, Gibson and Omobamidele, we are very unlikely to make the play-offs even if Tomkinson was available as back-up. We’ve all seen the impact of not having settled centre-backs for any length of time - this season and seemingly every premier league season since Hughton’s time.

The disruption at centre-back and also at fullback having an impact on our performance cannot be understated - if we had the same back four since the beginning of the season I would bet my house on us being in the top two.

And if we fail to get promoted, or we have settled centre backs for the rest of the season and get promoted, we will regret not having sent Tomkinson on loan anyway.

So seems pretty reasonable in light of our league position and chances of promotion. Of course there are risks and nothing guaranteed, but I think it’s the right balance of risk.

Do we know if the Tomkinson loan has a recall clause?

Transfermarkt has him as a central/defensive midfielder for St Mirren and Australia. Mostly played in a 2 in a 4-2-3-1 or a 3 in a 5-3-2.

If the £350k fee is accurate, it looks like we'd be getting a hard working central midfielder who might help with Wagner's pressing style, for less than we'll hopefully get for Cantwell.

If Wagner has identified McLean as his deepest midfielder, with Gibbs as backup, I guess Baccus would compete with Sara and Nunez for a single CM role?

Doesn't help with wide players, but I can understand it in terms of acquiring players at below their value.

TransferMarkt lists Bacchus as a DM who can also play as a CM, which is important, if true. I'm surprised the fee is so low after he played well in the World Cup.

Springett loaned to Derby for the rest of the season. Amazed a team that high up the pyramid wanted him, I would have expected to see him go to League Two at best. It'll be interesting to see how he gets on.

Even more thin on the ground for wide players now.

Tommy Smith at Middlesbrough a potential Aarons replacement.

I wouldn't stand in his way & his form and price tag have dipped considerably but he was immense Saturday with 2 assists , charging at Preston like a bull back heel assist for Dowell and that long pass to put Pukki in .

A huge loss but he's been so professional and loyal to us If he gets a big money move then good luck to him.

At 30 anything more than a 2 year deal would be risky

Wagner knows Smith well from their Huddersfield time together when Smith was captain. If he thinks it's a good move then that's ok with me.
