I get that Ernie, goal deficit shows it, but how do you zonally mark with 4 big players against 8 or 9...
It was poor defending without a doubt. Three touches from the deep corner before the ball ended up in the back of the net and not a defender within a yard of each of their 3 players. Zonally or otherwise there didn't seem to be any marking going on.
Our defending from set pieces leaves a lot to be desired and has been an ongoing problem since McCann. If the opposition get one you know that even if they don't score from the initial set piece, there's a good chance the ball will be in our half for a good five minutes or so as we can't get it clear.
Yes, it would be unusual for him to come in and start after an injury. Although he'll have only been out for a few weeks so it's completely different to Allahyar/Tetteh
I don't understand. So you are saying you wouldn't want to go up this season, or in fact any season, unless whilst we're in the CCC we have the 'right' number of players bar up to 4 to play in the PL? And that you wouldn't mind a play off run but then lose in the play offs? If so, I don't believe what you are saying, and I think you would be in a minority (of perhaps 1). You take promotion whenever you can, and you strengthen further and worry about the following season after you've gone up.
I think a blind man could have tightened us up defensively ernie after shota I see the experts on here are stil trying to say. The sleep inducing ****ing about at the back is brilliant and the way forward
Exactly what I was thinking, until THEY scored! Had we scored the first, we would have seen a totally different, way more open game from them from then on. They actually sat all 11 behind the ball. A big part of the problem was that we repeatedly had Seri joining our 2 CB's, taking the ball off them near the half way line. That meant we had only 7 players in front of Seri for him to pass to, whilst they had 10 and then their keeper, compressed into about 1/3 tops of the pitch. And we kept 'recycling' (yes, I know) back to those 3. No wonder we had so little space and struggled finding a way through (well that and the lack of pace & ability to beat a man). Surely Seri should not be coming so deep, but instead letting the CB's do their job.
The keeper then took 22 seconds to clear the ball (yes, this saddo counted), so karma bit him in the arse. Regarding team selection, I think there is a plan, whether we agree with it or not. He's picking players with pace and hard work to defend from the front, and it's one reason why we've improved so much in terms of goals scored. If he picked Tufan from the start it would improve our chances of scoring, and even more improve our chances of conceding. Tufan is a Gerrard in an England shirt type, will race across the pitch and fly into a tackle, getting applause and then spend the next few minutes wandering around and watching the game pass him by while his teammates do the hard work. He puts Tufan on when the game opens up more and oppositions are sitting back meaning Tufan's lack of pressing brings less risk. Tetteh clearly needs to start when capable of lasting at least an hour, but at the moment he's best used at the end where his ability in a crowded pitch is most valuable.
The goal was, Ingram to jones, lump forward Elder wins header on the edge of their box lands near Oscar and good night.
I think Seri had to come that deep to escape from the very tight marking that nullified him in the first half. They played a canny game after they went 1 up.
I’d leave two on the halfway, they would then leave three back surely giving us not only a numerical advantage but also an outlet to hopefully stop the next ball coming straight back into our area. Not claiming this as a new concept, but we always have everybody back for corners.
The chavs in the north stand are laughable. Not sure I get all this running across towards the away support when City score. I am sure things will be different when Millwall visit.
They deserve credit for this^. Teams better than us would have struggled against a back 9 all of whom looked about 8ft tall. We shouldn't be judged too harshly on this one performance. As someone else posted, we need to be scoring first, simple.
I didn't understand why they did that though. First half when they started playing, they looked a really decent side and caused us problems. They scored and then parked the bus. I've seen a few people saying they were **** but I didn't think they were at all.
We were garbage and that's being harsh on garbage.. As for Udders, what a set of Stefan Kuntz! 2nd half Rhodes is laid in our box, faking injury, they have ball but don't put it out. They'd get the ball back! 20 secs later, we get ball, but don't put it out and they complain like stink ...what a set of Udder's thickos. Pleased to say I stayed to the bitter end....Had to laugh.
After watching all the teams who have come to the MKM this season, we are seriously lacking in the '****housery' department. The team is just too nice, Rosenior in an interview this week said he had brought Connolly into the squad to shake things up a bit and give us an edge.
We've always being too nice, which is why we seldom put dire teams to the sword and tend to take pity on teams struggling. Its being like it for more years than I care to admit.... We lack gamesmanship and professionalism in spades, from top to bottom. If there was a $hithousery table, we'd be rock bottom. Doesn't seem to be any different under the new regime.
