Didn't even look like he was exerting himself it was like he was running on a travelator. He was solid on his debut and keeps on getting better, interesting player. Thought Neil was really good today too. His head didn't drop at any point, he played some great football throughout the game and really got stuck in. Fair play to him.
The ref went to his front pocket for the yellow card. Plain as day. The the Swansea lad rolled around and their centre half came playing the big man and he allowed the cheating Welsh ****s to change his mind. They could’ve had 4 players booked before O’Nien red. We should’ve had a penalty 10 seconds before it. In the context and the lack of Swansea cards, I’d say yellow. But understand the red (if that makes sense).
It was a rash challenge from too far out. I'd say a red, but a bigger mistake was to give the ref a chance he was bound to take once told what to do by Swansea players, who kept telling him all game. I've watched it since on screen and it was a clear pen seconds before it too, one of a good few decisions in the first 15 mins that were blatantly in Swansea's favour. Waste of a game that. You can't play football with ten men, and you can't play without a competent, impartial ref.
09 made a reckless tackle, it was a foul, whether i think it was a yellow or red is irrelevant... the useless ref called it a red. 09 gave him that opportunity. There was no goal threat...pointless foul. The penalty, as the saying goes, I've seen them given...useless ref didn't give it. The sending off decided the game... Neil was my MoM... we jog on. Not sure what can be done about incompetent refs...we often get a raw deal from them.
If you look at the footage after the foul there was a Swansea player following the ref and actually keeping him away from all the scuffling in the pack, for me a yellow to him. the big one pushing everyone all over should’ve seen red also. Swansea players acted like scum and were allowed to cheat their way through that game
Mowbray on the red card https://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/s...mowbray-reacts-luke-oniens-red-card/?ref=ebls Sunderland’s players felt they should have had a penalty moments before O’Nien was dismissed, with Amad Diallo appearing to have been clipped as he tumbled close to the byline, but Mowbray feels any sense of injustice cannot excuse the challenge that led to the red card. “I haven't watched the incidents back, but my instant reaction to the red was that with the ferocity of the tackle, and the fact that he's missed the ball, I think the ferocity of the challenge is what has got him the red card,” said Mowbray. “It's modern-day football and you have to accept it. I think the speed of the challenge is what gets the red card. It was obviously a long afternoon for us after that against a team that plays possession football, it's difficult enough to play with 11 against 11.” O’Nien appeared to react to the crowd’s fury at the referee’s decision not to award a spot-kick for the challenge on Amad, with Mowbray admitting that a much cooler head was required. O’Nien apologised to his team-mates in the dressing room after the game, and while Mowbray does not feel the need to personally admonish him, he is confident the defender will learn from his error. “Luke’s a very level-headed kid,” said Mowbray. “Yet I think it’s quite natural to get wrapped up in the game. It felt as if for a spell, the supporters could be our 11th man and make it an even game as such. The crowd can play such an important part, but maybe they overwound Luke O’Nien up a bit. “My job today was to try to make sure these players played with intensity against this team that were coming to try to dominate the ball, and I thought we did it brilliantly well for however long it was before the sending off. “Luke was stepping out from a central-defensive position into a midfield area, where their number nine had dropped down, and we’d talked about how the centre-halves had to drop in with them because they play in the spaces. “It was just an overly-aggressive challenge. I’ve told him that. There was no need for that intent, yet you can imagine if he had made real clean contact and the ball had flown 50 yards up the field, the crowd would have roared and it would have kept the momentum going. Ultimately, though, on the back of that decision, the game swung pretty dramatically.”
Yeah I see the red. Don’t argue it at all. But one if their players pushed 6 or 7 or ours. If their lad had also got up and got on with it, it probably would’ve been a yellow too. Referees are so easily swayed against us, I’ve seen far worse challenges than our 2 recent red cards that have been yellows at most against us. The most frustrating thing is that the ref wasn’t sending him off. Not until it kicked off. They played him like a fiddle and he sang their tune. 1 goal looked offside to me (not seen it back) another a blatant foul on Stewart ten seconds earlier and the pen appeal, 3 decisions all went against us moments before game changing occurrences. As I say, naked eye looked well offside but nit yet seen it back. The O’Nien challenge looked a Yelliw to the naked eye too. Probably would’ve been to Swansea. They’d had a full back booked and he tripped Clarke. Standard yellow. The lad who jumped in front of Patterson’s throw, standard yellow. Three trips in dangerous areas in the first 15 minutes. They could have had 4 or 5 Yelliw cards before the red, he only booked one of theirs for a foul after the red card. And it was a nothing foul too. Sorry I’m ranting but I’m still angry as ****!!!!
Thanks for posting RTB but I will watch the full 90 later as I still have not calmed down after yesterday. My immediate hopes are that Swansea get to the play-offs and loose unjustly aided and abetted by incompetence as we did yesterday. We live in hope. OaU
Yeh it was mate, and they were cheated out of a game of football, but the support they gave the team was tremendous.
O9 was an idiot imo. Half way line player going nowhere. Amad went down to easy imo. Ref got that right as well imo. Ref and linesmen were fkn absolutely w*nk for every other decision. I believe we would have battered them even 11 v 12/14 men. They were fkn **** and 2 of their goals were flukes. I can handle getting beat but yesterday was so frustrating.
Agree. Worse ref I think I've ever seen. Incompetent and obviously slanted very heavily one way. I was amazed he didn't find a way to give them a penalty somehow.
Watch it again. Amad had his standing leg kicked away. If he could stand up on his other leg then fair enough, but it was in the air too. Clear penalty.
Strange thing is, I have been told , he has refereed two of our previous games this season and we won both , and the most annoying thing is we could have won this one imo if Luke had not seen red, and you have to say it was avoidable. Revenge is best served cold as they say.
