It always depends on the player. Some have their heart set on a club, regardless of better offers/prospects elsewhere. How many times has a player joined Real Madrid only to be constantly sat on their arse after their first season?
Robben, Sniejder, Van der Vaart, Diarra, Kaka...and I imagine Nuri Sahin will too eventually.
These are good players who are now at clubs they could have joined in the first place (the first 3, I mean) and actually in Vander Vaart's case, a lesser club. No disrespect to Spurs, but he could have joined anyone in Europe before he went to Madrid.

But anyway, I agree about the Milan team. They probably have less of a lure than the others.

In Spain as well we are basically competing with better tax rates, better weather, better lifestyle and two clubs with history like our own if not better. It's always unlikely that either of us could take a first team player from Real or Barca.

United have always tried to by tomorrows stars from lesser clubs before they get to Barca or Real - ie Ronaldo, Nani etc.

What bothers me, is like you said, how many of these players go to Barca or Real knowing they are unlikely to play much.

The whole transfer market must be holding its breath. For the first time, in a very long time, clubs will not be able (with very few exceptions) to be able to ignore the economic realities. So the fees and wages that are likely to be on offer will be largely depressed.

If the management companies/agents of the players are actually doing their job then they will be looking even more closely at the fiancial security of the clubs that their clients are currently playing for and those with whom they may be negotiating.

Will they bollox. They will be desperately hoping the club that their player signs for gets into financial difficulties with a year or so, that way the player will move elsewhere and the agent will pocket another fat signing on fee. Agents make their biggest fees when players are flogged for a pittance either due to financial difficulties or contracts running out, as that way they can blag an even bigger fee for themselves.

I notice Joorabchian has just said Tevez would be happy to sign for Spurs or Arsenal...what a surprise. He's changed his tune quickly from "he's happy at City and didn't refuse to play".

I agree. If it was about security, there'd be very few players letting their contracts run down. Leaving on a Bosman = massive singing on fee for agent and player. If you left for £40m with 4 years left on your contract, you'd probably get a lesser signing on fee. It's within the agents' (financial) interest to have their players constantly move clubs.

So Liverpool fans, without this turning into a slanging match as I've seen the reaction this weekend to anyone daring to question certain members of the side etc., after a good portion of the season what do you honestly think of your new signings and start to the season?

It seems you accept that you're not taking your chances yet still claim that Suarez is one of the best strikers in the world. Bit of a contradiction that.
He's clearly talented, especially in the art of falling over and waving cards, but ain't the greatest finisher or else he'd be scoring more.

Carroll, complete and utter waste of £35 million
Henderson - looks out of his depth, see above.
Downing - better than I though but still merely just good.
Enrique, looks a decent enough full back.
Adam - good back up squad player, very useful.
    Doni - Who knows?

You look top six to me but only just, i.e. you're likely to finish 6th.

This is all in the name of a bit of banter so don't get too uppity like you did to those Swansea fans who had the temerity to question how good you are.

My verdict on our own signings is that De Gea is starting to bed in and will come good.
Jones has the potential to be superb but is still a bit raw and that Young fitted in like he'd played there for years till he got a niggly injury.

We're playing like last year, a bit dour with flashes of brilliance but still winning. I'd rather that than be drawing at home to the PL new boys, we got **** for our win over Norwich but at least it was a win.

    Discuss.

*took me ages to compose as I was getting interrupted non stop. I'm very well, sorry to hear about your hangover again Sweats*

He also gave a Swans fan a massive amount of **** for daring suggest Liverpool were not that great at the moment. Seems RHC was in a proper bad mood at the weekend.

I don't recall having a dig at any Swansea fan. I was in an awful mood on Saturday for a number of reasons, not least of which was the football. A poor draw with Swansea, and an own goal by an ex-player. "Happy anniversary, ex-gaffer" <doh>
