Morning all. Grey with showers now after some heavy overnight rain. I had intended to fit my new movement sensor for the outside light yesterday, but it was so windy I didn't fancy perching at the top of my ladder. Today the wind isn't so strong, but I am not going to get wet, so it will have to wait. Have a good day everyone. <ok>

Morning all. The sun is making a brave attempt to spot the break in the clouds, but it is still too windy for my ladder climbing. Son-in-law was within five miles of home last Thursday after his return trip to the UK from here, when warning lights came up, and the car started to lose power. They limped home, so first thing Friday morning he was on the phone to the garage, who said he would need a diagnostic test, that they could fit in this coming Friday. After his experience here when the under tray was fitted back in place, and new light bulbs fitted three hours after phoning my garage, he is feeling extremely grumpy. £50 +vat to tell you what is wrong before any actual repairs is one of the benefits of modern cars I suppose. Have a good day everyone. <ok>

This diagnostic charge is a real scam... I got let off mine the other week afer paying a big bill and complaining.

Meanwhile took our new electric bikes out today for a spin. Definetly felt the difference..... only a short ride... but felt very virtuous afterwards...

Morning all. Hardly noticed it is grey and cold outside as I have been fighting the printer. Mme informed me late last night that she would need some prints today, so as it gets little use, the cartridges needed a clean to get some ink out of them. Having found what it was she wanted, I got to the preview stage, pressed print, and what came out was a quarter of the size I expected. Two hours later, and I still haven't cracked it, so time for a coffee and see what others have done online to resolve it. Have a good day everyone. <ok>

Sheffield United fans will be bereft - as am I. One of my 60s favourites, both with and without The Yardbirds.

I saw the Yardbirds in Rickmansworth when they had Jeff Beck and Eric Clapton before they released For your Love

    Both left soon after

Morning all. After a glorious Springlike day yesterday, we have returned to overcast skies, and it feels cold again. We had a day out in Limoges yesterday, and the blue sky and warm sun seemed to have brought a smile to the faces of the bar and shop staff wherever we went. The camellia that sits in a pot outside the kitchen window is blooming. It came from England when we moved, and would flower there around April/May time. In normal years it would be wrapped up in fleece to protect it from severe frosts, but there are none so far, enabling us to see the buds swelling, then opening. The hundreds of cranes that are in the fields on route to the physio were still there on Thursday. It looks as though it is warm enough here for them, and they will not head further south now. The météo say it is 4°C warmer than average for this time of year, so we might get through winter without power cuts, despite the warnings. Have a good day everyone. <ok>

Terrible news - up to a dozen firefighters who tackled the Grenfell Towers blaze have been diagnosed with terminal cancer - "rare cancers linked to the high levels of unprecedented exposure to contaminants during the huge rescue effort."

Who'd be a fireman? Made scapegoats by the government after the Grenfell inquiry, having to strike after being refused pay rises and now this - heart-breaking really. Heads in high places need to roll, but we all know they won't.

Morning all. Wet and windy here again, so will be happy to be in for the game today. At one time I could go into my local branch of the bank, hand over some cash to the person behind the counter, who would immediately pay it into my account, and hand me a piece of paper with the new balance on it. The person however, was replaced by a machine, and it could take four days before the cash was added to your account. Then the machine was removed, and we were told that we would have to go to the main branch in town, a further six miles away. Then the machine was changed to an all singing, all dancing one, that did add monies paid in straight away, having counted your notes, and or coins. Yesterday the technology crashed, and you could only pay coins in. Spoke to a lady on the help desk, who said there was nothing to be done until it came back online. Meanwhile, shopkeepers were coming in to pay in their morning's takings, but were unable to do so. All of this might be better for the bank, but not at all helpful for the customer. Rant over. Have a good day everyone. <ok>

Quite the deluge on the way into Watford. Fine and torrential. Wet rain, as it were, getting into every crevice.

*edit* who the flying f*** writes these predictive text programmes these days? Absolutely useless. Type in a genuine word it changes it. I know 7 year olds with a better grasp of spelling and grammar.

Morning all. Sunny for the moment, but more rain forecast for this afternoon. Yesterday while watching Watford my internet connection was just about ok providing I didn't have any other tabs open. Today it is worse, with a message popping up to say the connection is limited, whatever that entails. It hasn't been wonderful since the fibre cables were laid, and work done in the exchange. A speed test shows it to be normal, so not sure what the problem might be. Have a good day everyone. <ok>

Had a similar problem here a few years ago with Sky. I rang their complaints dept and they wanted to talk me through a few checks - told them no thanks, send a technician. They did and I haven't really had a problem since. To thank them, I cancelled our subscription to their TV package, which no-one in the house was using.

You have to show them who's boss...

I have done an internet based fault-finder, and it tells me I have a dicky modem. We will change it for you, and you can collect from a bar alongside the physio. I have accepted their offer of lots of gigabits of data for the phone, so should be well covered. Toby read my post and sent me instructions on how to improve the internet speed which could help anyone. We are lucky to have an expert available.
