    OK. The bits for Marsch.

He came in after a horrific run under Bielsa. Confidence was just gone. He came in, picked the lads chins off the floor and ultimately did whatever he did to keep us up. It was too close for comfort but he did it. I don't count last season for him. Its was desperation stuff.

It was clear midfield was a real weak point last season. At times we were having to play Bate against the likes of Man City (or was it Liverpool I forget). The defence wasn't great either but the midfield was non existent. Then we sold Raphinha who is our best attacking talent and sold Phillips who although hadn't played too much was still our best midfielder (and still would be today if he was here). Marsch and Orta spent the summer addressing the midfield problem which they've largely done. Adams has been great. Aaronson has gone off the boil with the ball but clearly has talent. Roca is more of a steady Eddie but does alot of the stuff nobody sees. Big thumbs up from me. We look alot better. That was his first transfer window and his net spend was less than 2 million.

Since the beginning of the season it's become clear that our defenders and pretty much every single one at times struggle to defend 1 v 1. Time and time again we see them left for dead. We only had Firpo as left back and he is injury prone and a frighteningly poor defender when fronted up. Struijks done OK but his form is quickly deserting him costing us a possible 4 goals in 3 games. Llorente has a confidence issue and looks shaky. Cooper is, and always has, looked like every game has to be a cup final at this level. We are still early in the window yet Marsch (and Orta) have signed Wober who has played left back all season but can play centrally and also in midfield in an emergency. So Marsch has identified the problem and signed a leader to fix it. There is still around 20 days of the transfer window to go. The club are backing Marsch obviously. Can you really expect a coach in one transfer window to upgrade a Championship team into a middle road PL side. This is his second window and this will be his team moving forward. If the performances carry on like last night I'm quite content....IF we stop the silly mistakes at the back.

    Against Marsch.

We make the same mistakes over and over at the moment. I think it's a 80% player issue 20% coaching because we don't learn.

He talks too much. That's a personal thing. Stop talking get on with it.

He shall be judged from here on. For example if Marsch plays Struijk over Wober next game then I will call him out on it.

Absolutely. Winning breeds confidence and confidence breeds winning.

As daft as it sounds that performance last night looked full of confidence and belief. If we beat Cardiff then we should be flying.

When Bielsa came in, we started to look unbalanced with a team of wide players and a bench full of them, even Alioski and Dallas who were converted to full backs to an extent but are really wide midfield attackers.

We’re now starting to look a team full of attackers and CBs with few options available to change it in the middle. When they’re all fit who is going to miss out.

Gnonto, Summerville, Sinisterra, Bamford, Gelhardt, Rodrigo, Rutter, Harrison we even had Perkins on the bench yesterday. At least 8 players to fill three spaces.

The players to link up play, Greenwood, Roca, Aaronson and Adams, we’ve just four players. We have the players to change it to 4-4-2 if required but Jesses style is too hit and miss miss miss.

When I was typing those attackers names down, it just jumps out how we should be doing better. Jesse couldn’t coach what he inherited and he isn’t able to coach what we have. Yes we looked better yesterday but was that not partly to how poor Villa were.

If we played like that every single game there might be an argument.

Does he not analyse the games and think okay we’re conceding goals virtually the same way every week, I need to tweak it

Sorry Emu net spend means nothing, he’s on the verge of signing player number 9 which with Wober will take his net spend to around £40m and what value would you really put on Gnonto and Adams, between them they’re worth far more than they cost.

As for Championship team, when we were nearly relegated last season people were saying Llorente, Meslier, Harrison, Bamford, James, Rodrigo and Summerville would be all sold off, they’re hardly classed as Championship. They were good enough for mid table PL season one as they were coached well. Season two went to **** but conveniently some forget the horrific injury list and everyone jumped on the over training bandwagon

Before the end of the season you’ll call for JMs head, I just hope we have enough time to fix it

    The analysing thing interests me.

I mean we'll never know for sure but the evidence suggests he sees the errors. Firpo struggled last season and he's out of favour. Llorente was struggling so he dropped him. Kristensen struggled and he was dropped. Struijks now struggling and we sign Wober. Against Cardiff he specifically mentioned Struijks mistakes. Last night he immediately said that the first goal was poor defending. He said on a number of occasions that we somehow find a way to make life difficult for ourselves. So in my mind he is aware of it.

This is where I differ from alot of fans. The fact he has signed Wober shows he knows it needs fixing. He might not even be done with defensive signings. Who knows. So far Wober is his fix for the left side of defence. Whether Wober is PL standard I have no idea but we'll find out. I said BEFORE last night's game that the Cooper/Struijk channel filled me with dread with Bailey and Watkins down that side. It's obvious to see, even a numpty like me could see what was about to happen. I don't see the point of giving Marsch the players he wants then sacking him. Then we have to let a new manager clear out players and bring his own in.

In a nutshell, either the players are just not good enough or they are and Marsch is coaching them to defend unlike any coaching manual that ever existed. Considering how we defended under Bielsa at the time I'd say the evidence is that they aren't quite good enough. I suppose Marsch job depends on the success of Wober and how well he can address that weak left flank. If Wober flops then Marsch probably has to go.

I said after the Fulham game that there was no way back for Marsch but he beat Liverpool and kept his job. We are where we are and if the club is backing him then so should the fans....for now.

We’ll never know what goes on I agree but here’s what I think could be the difference…

Bielsa struggles, knock on the door from Orta, are any of these players of interest, Bielsa no they’re no better, he is not humble enough, he’s got too much body fat.

Same thing with Jesse yes I’ll take them. I did say at the start what will hopefully become better is his handling of those Bielsa wouldn’t touch. Under Bielsa we’d never have seen Wober on the bench for another month at least, he wanted every player super fit and knowing their role inside out.

On the other hand Wober has played around 55 minutes of football and already played CM LB CB that’s not a good sign surely

Finally our biggest problem isn’t Jesse it is the board and future direction.

Is Radz going to sell and if so is it the 49ers and how much cash do they have

If not are we going to be brought by someone who has similar funds to Man City and Newcastle

If Radz is staying for three years we’re always going to sell the best to fund survival so we need a Dyche

If the 49ers an American coach might understand his American owners a bit better and with limited but useful extra funds who knows

If we’re going to get the next super rich billionaire how far away are they from taking over as Jesse can be kicked to touch and we can go for a big name

Depends how you look at it. You're glass half empty, I'm strangely glass half full. <laugh>

Marsch said he knew we needed more control in midfield vs Cardiff but didn't want Wober to make his debut out of position. He wanted him to have a comfortable start to get him going. He then decided "**** it, I trust Max and I need him in midfield " so threw him on. It worked, Wober played well at 6 at Cardiff.

Last night, he was actually trying to make the sub to take Struijk off who was obviously struggling with Bailey. Wober was stripped and ready to go on when Villa scored their 2nd. Would Wober have defended him better than Struijk? Dunno but I'd imagine it would be hard to do it worse. So Marsch was probably 30 seconds away from not conceding that 2nd goal (very Leedsy). I thought Wober did well at left back to be fair.

A bit of backstory to Wober moving to centre back. In his presser Jesse was talking about Firpo being very good at going forward but not realising his potential as a defender. The question given was about possibly using Firpo as a winger. Given that, at 2-1 down and looking to find a way to get more attacking players on the pitch. It made sense to take off Koch, put Wober at RCB and put Firpo as an attacking wing back. It makes sense to me.

You see Wober flexibility as a bad thing. It's actually helped us out alot over two games and allowed us to press forward more. Ultimately it sounds like Marsch wants him at left back but so far it's been handy to utilise him elsewhere when we are chasing games.

My take is that Bielsa comes in and within a couple of weeks he puts a team out at Stoke City and he showed us what football was all about, he took the fans, the media and football in general on a massive journey. 3 weeks.

Yesterday and in every press conference almost a year after joining us Marsch says “the team are still learning the principles” “the process is now starting to sink in” yada yada yada. Even Marsch’s own players are worse now than when they came and Aaronson and Kristensen have lost confidence and are shot.

The reality is that Red Bull football doesn’t work in this league, so Marsch is trying to adapt it and still learning by his mistakes and it’s confusing for the players. Last nights performance was much better and he needs to now hold that tweak, drill it and hope for VAR, Refs to give us a break. We also came up against a great keeper. Last night we were the better team but shafted by the biased ref and VAR

We need to blow Cardiff away and we need to repeat last nights performance in the league and win and then win again or hes toast. The fans have already turned on him and these are our away fans who are generally football fans and generous. Fans have had enough

Certainly league but Wober should get a good hour in the Cup to make sure he is match fit for the league.

I can be half empty I don’t deny that, I wish I could be half full more often but this isn’t a case of one or the other, it’s about having a coach who can’t coach at this level.

We are stronger in midfield or we need to use Wober against a make shift Cardiff team because we have no depth or Jesse didn’t pick his team and bench correctly

Read Heidi’s match report, she’s watched virtually every game for over 50 years, Meslier nearly on the half way line for corners, no defenders staying back for corners, these are instructions from the coach

Jesse has had all the tools possible to get things rolling. Jesse had a dozen games at the end of the season to see what was needed and get a taste, he had a preseason and was backed with 6-7 signings. He had an international break and we had the smallest handful ever missing yet he still moans players can’t adjust to his system

Bielsa got them adjusted in 5 weeks, even his own (Jesse) previously worked with players don’t get it. Jesse is a text book coach, he doesn’t and can’t recognise it on the pitch. When it doesn’t work his answer is to bring in a new players.

Now those new players are looking like failiures as what is being asked doesn’t work at this level. New York and Salzburg is his level, maybe he’d be great in the Championship, Leipzig realised his limitations early on

Don't sack Marsch but sack Llorente. Koch.. Struijk.. Firpo is my take but we only have this window to bring a left back in. So no left back comes then we are fooked off back to the championship. Cresswell is neded just for his psssion and commitment and the above quartet go back to squad members to be used only if needed.

Marsch has a habit of going against himself. Wober is 24 years old so why does he need time to learn and settle in.

Marsch said in the summer that Gnonto wasn’t ready for the premier league yet. I think Marsch is the person not suited to this league and Gnonto is the player a lot of top club will be chasing. That Marsch statement says much

    Leipzig

    Jesse 7 Wins 4 Draws 6 Losses sitting 11th

When he left on a 34 game season they finished 4th 17 wins 7 draws 10 losses

Balanced article of why it went wrong at Leipzig, it still doesn’t address the fact the team improved when he left. It also outlines Jesse not working to the teams strengths and trying to force his own style of play when he didn’t have the players for it, a good coach would recognise that

That’s exactly what I said during the Cardiff match, throw anyone on that had scored a goal before.

So everything you’ve said in your last two posts, the upgrade in midfield, noticing players out of form and dropping them for others etc. yet nothing changes, the same goals are conceded every week so by your own observations this must mean it is 100% down to Marsch and the way he wants to play. If you change the personnel and it makes no difference it must be the system. I’ll be honest, I’m done with him. Two wins from eighteen games would get any coach sacked at any club that considered themselves a “big” club.

In total at Leeds, he has a shocking 27% win percentage, Frank Lampard at Everton 28.6% recently sacked Gerrard 32.5%

Nathan Jones at bottom club Southampton has a 42.9 win percentage with them
