All that triggering Porro's release clause would do is set the price. His agent knows that there's interest from other clubs with more money. He'll negotiate the best deal that he can get for himself and his client. We do seem to have some sort of relationship with his agency, though. CAA Base Ltd also represent Son, Richarlison, Walker(and -Peters), Alli, Devine and Trippier. Massive list, though: https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/caa-base-ltd/beraterfirma/berater/674
Release clauses are mandatory in many continental leagues, Spain and Portugal I believe for sure but also maybe some others. They’re there to protect the club (assured of a fee if a different club tries to mess around) and the player (guaranteed route out of the club if they want a move). But players move for under clauses all the time, it’s an insurance policy. Nothing wrong with trying to negotiate, though Porto’s club have made their position pretty clear. I’d rather we just sign him if he’s the top target and move on with our lives, to be honest.
I was trying to say that I don't believe that's an option. I probably could've been clearer. If we trigger his clause, then that just means that everyone else knows the price. If Chelsea and Barca want him, then they've also got to match that price. It doesn't mean that the deal is done, though.
I mean I think everyone knows the price anyway. Reports are that we already have a contract agreement in principle with the player. I’m sure agents shop around for their client once the release clause is triggered though. Have to move fast with these things.
The release clause is presumably only triggered if we pay in full in cash. Almost no transfers work like that these days.
There are plenty of sources of financing available that allow clubs to spread those payments out over multiple years as per usual though. Obviously that incurs interest payments but more manageable than a lump sum.
Likely Bullshit Watch CalcioMercato claim that, as Inter are considering signing Emerson to replace Denzel Dumfries, we are considering an Emerson/Bastoni swap deal My immediate thought? please log in to view this image
Porro Watch Interesting take by O Jogo today: they claim that Sporting had no intention of entering into negotiations with anybody for Porro before the Lisbon derby, which takes place this weekend Looks like the "Sporting make a bigger cut of the fee if they accept a €40m bid" story is back on the menu, boys!
@Citizen Kane.’s favourite player has been isolated by Roberto De Zerbi, sounds like he’s trying to force a move in January.
Inaccurate. I actually kidnapped him after his return from Qatar and locked him in my basement until his contract expires. De Zerbi has no idea where he is. But then they went and triggered his contract extension which means I need to go out tomorrow to stock up on more pot noodles and loo roll.
I bought him the double quilted, scented loo roll as a special treat. Almost there now, come on Levy dust the cobwebs off that purse.
Porro Watch Record (the Spanish one, etc etc) claim that we will be meeting with Sporting next week, while also repeating O Jogo's claim that Sporting were not willing to enter negotiations prior to this coming weekend's Lisbon derby
Things appear to have broken down completely between Trossard and Brighton. He's not in their squad to face the Scouse tomorrow and has ****ed off to Belgium as a result. His agency have now released a statement about it, which is in Dutch. A quick summary is that they couldn't agree a new deal and that the coach has turned on him. Refused to speak to him after an injury and then slagged him off in front of the other players. I really don't like this sort of behaviour from players, even if things aren't going well. Not familiar enough with his career to know if it's a pattern, though. Can't remember hearing any **** being chucked at him before, but I could've missed it.
Trossard Watch Doesn't seem to have a track record of throwing strops, so there might* be something to these claims * The word "might" is doing some legwork
Whilst De Zerbi could’ve potentially handled things better if what’s said is true, I get the feeling Trossard was looking for an excuse to use to force a move away and now he has it. Teams were aware of his contract situation well before the last week or so and I’d guess there’s been some tapping up, possibly by us and/ or others, so it’s swayed his head. Craziest thing is Brighton won’t even really miss him, Mitoma looks quality and I’d say looks the better player already (sorry, CK!) but he’ll cost a bomb at the moment.
Me too....regrettably I'm too tall to stand upright in it and regularly smack my head on the door frame. It's where I keep tools, the wine and the cats dump their discarded dead rats (next door leave food out for the foxes!)...without their heads...it used to be a coal cellar. It's a lot less fun than it sounds.
