I don't mind getting bodies in the box. Roca should score. Struijk is left back but wants to come over to help Cooper who is defending 1 v 1 on the right. That leaves Bailey all on his own. Aaronson shouts at him but it's too late. When Struijk eventually gets across to Bailey he just allows him to step inside on to his stronger foot and get a free shot at goal. It's terrible positioning from Struijk and then a complete lack of effort and ability to defend 1v1. Scared of him. Add that to the goal at Cardiff and the penalty against West Ham and Struijk has cost us 3 goals in 3 games. Get the **** out.
I expect him to make life difficult for the attackers by positioning himself correctly and then defend 1v1. In short, I expect him to defend. What your basically asking is why should a defender have to defend.
Do you go to the man with the ball or all the others running past you that will score anyway? Our corners are their best form of attack
Cooper had to deal with the man running with the ball. Aaronson was covering the middle and giving Cooper assistance. Struijk should have split the distance between Bailey and the Villa guy in the middle (stayed in the left channel if you like). Instead he gets drawn too far to the ball. That makes an easy decision for the attackers to pick out Bailey. Once that happens, Struijk has too much ground to make up and has to sprint. That makes it easy for Bailey to step inside and score because Struijks momentum makes it easy. His momentum is caused by his poor positioning. Struijk made two errors back to back which made it look easy for Villa. We can add in Roca here who should score from the corner.
Struijk having a shocker again - completely over commits on Bailey there. Looks like a centre back playing full back tonight. Perhaps we should bring in wober to look like another full back playing left back
think we were a man short covering… as well - Adams charged forward to try and press but didn’t get there.
Agree with you on this. Sorry but I still maintain that we over commit at corners leaving the defence or what’s left of it under pressure to the counterattack
