I'll tell you what ticks me off....people who spell tire with a y - I mean why? Or jail as gaol, not even close. Some even add a u to color - mental. And don't get me started on people who say arse when they mean fanny. Also people who pronounce schedule as shedule, just silly, like not clearly pronouncing the h in the middle of vehicle. Or say film when the mean movie, even worse cinema instead of movie theater. While on enunciation its really annoying when people don't raise their tone at the end of every sentence to make it sound like a question. There are people out there who don't want to listen to vegans tell them just how amazing it is every time they meet them - crazy. You put trash in a trash can, stop calling it a dustbin you don't fill it with dust. Most of all its people who don't realize that young people today are under more pressure than any generation in history. Fighting in a world war or killing a wooly mammoth with a sharpened stick is much less stressful than living your best life on Insta. Well that all looks fairly none controversial I'll go make a cup of tea. Milk, water then tea bag obvs.
In my campaign against Americanisms, I tell those fools that say they're 'off to the John' when going to toilet, that it's been renamed as 'the Jim'. This has the added bonus that I can say that I go the the Jim every morning.
Companies that use ‘account managers’. Dossers that invariably **** off after 6 months, leaving you wasting your time emailing an empty email address, waiting for answers that aren’t coming, from someone who’s not there.
Very good It passes me off when Americans tell us how to speak English. Don't tell me how to speak English, I'm English, you funking inbred...
That's the Justus Project in Rotterdam built in 1924, I was referring to current social housing, rather than what they were building 100 years ago. Though even that development has been renovated and inside they look like this... please log in to view this image
Here's the example I mentioned in my original post of the houses junior viewed... please log in to view this image please log in to view this image Both built around the same time, both around the same size and both roughly the same price. The top one is a large developer who has little regard for architectural merit and is concerned only with maximum return from minimum effort. The bottom one is a small local developer who does care about what he builds and manages to do it for the same price as the large developer. Personally, I think we should be striving for more of the bottom one.
It's worth reading up about Baron Haussmann, who redesigned the Paris slums into the City it is today, and his changes still divide opinion. Victor Hugo, who was a social influencer at the time, hated the new Paris.
Not sure I agree. I can't believe how expensive the entry level Beal/Barrett/whoever new builds are these days. Slight tangent but the PassivHaus concept is designed to create well built, efficient housing (that looks pretty good too, IMO) at a similar build cost to traditional construction methods, per m2. There are plenty of examples of small developments building to these standards priced similarly to the mass-manufactured crap, and by their very nature they have to have a better build quality or they wouldn't meet their various standards (airtightness, thermal bypass, thermal bridging etc). IMO, it's an educational thing. Aesthetics aside, still not enough people understand the benefits of such a property, and I don't consider myself some sort of green-nut, more a tight Yorkshireman wanting to save on my energy bills. The idiot in me thought it would be a good idea to undertake a renovation project on our current house to similar standards. What a clusterfuck.
Victor Hugo didn’t like the uniformity of what was done with every frontage being the same colour and looking the same. He and others were so unhappy about it they were referred to as Les Miserables.
I like the minimalist look, but there's nowhere to sleep or go to the toilet. Or does it all pull down from that box on the left?
