When you're strapped for cash you make sure your staff do everything they can to make you some extra pennies....like a chance at a cup run - but we get some insipid, pathetic performance against lower level opposition that my left bollock on a bad day could beat. Just doesn't make sense
Some alumni movements: Massimo to Ipswich - free. Kane to Charlton (I’m guessing the fee was less than £13M) Bonne to Charlton too.
I don't know how our players are paid. Are there bonuses for winning, scoring etc? If they can't play for the badge, maybe look at the pay structure?? Fleetwood is a new low point in the narrative of the (not so) Mighty Hoops!
I have a work colleague who's a Tractor fan who asked me about Mass....they've got Dom Ball there too, although he's long term injured at the mo.. What a **** up Bonne has been
Did we ever play Bonnie enough? Like to know how many games he started? Warbs didn’t play him much, or Beale or NC
We seem to have hit one of our periods of malaise in which we're subjected to insipid mind-numbingly shyte performances over a long stretch. I feel we're in a similar vein to that before we re-signed Charlie who was the catalyst for a 12-13 month run of great results under MW before whatever happened at the end of last January f*cked us completely. Beale briefly rekindled the optimism only to snuff it out with his betrayal and that has put everyone on a downer. Sometimes little things like that have a massive effect on the whole squad and it's hard to see it turning round. I think I'll be happy to see the back of this season, I've lost any enthusiasm after last week's abject surrender...
I think that's been the case for the last nine season's mate. We went up under Warnock, then we went down under Hughes/Redknapp then we went up under Redknapp ( 2014 ecstasy ) and since then it's been relegation and a lower table finish. A few glimpses of optimism and then a major slump of losses to drag us back down again. It's going to be that way for the foreseeable future. We're finishing about 16th or thereabouts, that's our default position. I can't see us progressing in the near future.
I am not ready to consign us to the scrap heap of lower half Championship football for ever! I believe we will get another bite of the PL cherry. As to when that might be, one can only hope it is sooner rather than another ten or fifteen years from now. It just needs a few things to come together, create a core team of band of brothers with reasonable skill but even more grit and determination and we'll be on our way. The more interesting question is what the owners (assuming still this lot) will do and whether they've learnt from past experience.
Said it before, I’ll say it again … sign of madness : doing the same thing and expecting a different result. I do think the strategy, to move towards a recruitment of players with a high expectancy of resale value is a good one for us. Brentford have proved it can work. So it’s about the players you identify, select and bring in. You would have to say our recruitment and analysis team have chosen to highlight themselves with their recent video and have us all questioning their success rate and ability to make this strategy a winner for us. I hope we don’t give up too early and have another change of direction. We need to stick to the principles and build a team (recruitment and coaching) that can generate the input of good players and the output of very good players. You can only be judged on team results and sales at the end of the day. I’m a firm believer we should have specialist coaches right through the team. The snake was seemingly going that way and we need to have that firmly in place to develop players, team principles and playing standards in all areas of the pitch.
I actually think that our strongest available side is a very good team zt this level. Unfortunately, the entire squad seems to be the kind that plays out of this world stuff when everything is going their way, but have absolutely no fight in them when the going gets tough.
Me neither, but without any real input of proper quality players due to FFP, the reality is that is exactly where we will be for many many years to come, also not excluding relegation..shopping in the basement bargain dept, the odd old head on his last legs, and hopefully a few gems coming through the ranks, that's us..another bite at the PL is pie in the sky ☹️
I'm not sure what our strongest team actually is. Everyone could have a totally different opinion as to what that is.
Totally pie in the sky mate. We are years and years away from returning to the premier league and that's if we manage to start a progression season upon season. It's becoming more and more difficult to achieve it nowadays anyway. You have to be willing to spend at least a few pennies just to even contemplate a play off position.
Low budget Luton and Huddersfield were top 6 last season if memory serves. We've been top of the League this season and even now are only 3 points and 6 positions off 6th. I know our form isn't good but form trends are often circular, we're due a patch of good form now soon. While I'm not confident of a play off position it's not "totally pie in the sky mate"
Two completely different things. Grabbing sixth is well within our reach, but beating WBA, Blackburn etc. over two games is not very likely. But who knows what the window will bring?
Not since Redknapp took us back up have we finished higher than 9th (Warburton). We currently sit around mid table now. That's what we are, a mid table team. There's nothing wrong with that if it's the clubs ambition to do so. It just becomes a tad frustrating (as we all know) not to aim higher. We are a selling club for obvious reasons, so that hinders our chances even further. Luckily our better players have been quite **** recently, so not attracted any attention.
