Loads of people that are pretty soulless and characterless themselves. So they happily settle for the mediocre. Thankfully your lad had a bit more about him.

That and the crazy housing market this country has created.

Regardless of what gets built, it's likely to sell when demand is greater than the supply. However with all the youngsters struggling to save a deposit, the homeless and other people on waiting lists for houses we probably need low cost prefabs as much now as we did after ww2. Better built though...

I said it costs no more for a well designed house, than it does for a poorly designed one, it just needs more thought and a desire to offer something better.

    Does perfection exist?

We're pretty spoilt with high ceilings in our gaff. Went to pick up the youngest from a mates house on a new estate and I genuinely ducked as I walked into the it thinking I was going to hit my head on the ceiling, and I'm not tall. The most claustrophobic I've ever felt in a house.

    Well that didn't last long.
John Parrott used the words "absolutely brilliant" to describe today's snooker match between O'Sullivan/Williams. He was spot on. I"ll eat my words. <doh>

As someone who has worked in the building industry for well over 30 what you just wrote is complete bollocks, the bigger the house the more it costs, that’s why the shoe box is cheap and the detached is more expensive, design doesn’t come into it.

Totally agree - really annoys me too - you must be at a lose end over this. Just don't loose too much sleep over it. Don't let it gnaw away at your life or you will loose your sanity becoming another down-and-out looser. Don't loose sight of the bigger picture - otherwise you will be unshackled from reality, losening a few screws here and there until you loose them all. Call me anytime you need encouragement bro. I'm here for you, a kindred spirit when it comes to this abomination of language.

I didn’t say anything about the size, I was talking about the design, why do so many builders just knock up houses that look like the plans were drawn up by a child? How much thought went into designing this?

Have a look at social housing in the Netherlands, or Scandinavia and then look again at the soulless box above, there’s no comparison.

This social housing in the Netherlands doesn’t look much better.
And their tower blocks are no more appealing than ours:

Because it’s all down to price, you should understand that being in the rag trade, the simpler the build, the cheaper the cost, even the price of a brick can vary from 75p to £3 each, someone near me has just spent £90k completely renovating a semi bungalow, more than it costs to build a new one, I get what you say about Lego houses, but everyone isn’t well off.
