So what you are saying is it's a bloody good job they are there otherwise there would be nobody shopping in the centre ?
But, I don't really understand why its a problem? I'm in the City Centre everyday and I really don't recognise this. Most people I see/hear are British. What sort of time were you there?
The area is much more ethnically diverse than before. You didn’t say anything racist, in this post, as far as I can see. Unless you’re suggesting you wouldn’t want to live in the city centre was simply because there’s less white English in it? I can’t imagine that would be the case though?
Mid to late afternoon. -> So what you are saying is it's a bloody good job they are there otherwise there would be nobody shopping in the centre ? There was very little shopping taking place full stop (other than McD's being rammed and the coffee shop being full but nobody much moving out). -> You didn’t say anything racist, in this post, as far as I can see. Good. That's how I intended it to be ..... and why I can't on here answer the rest of your question nor the question about '... why it's a problem'! I don't really want to have yet another thread go off rails but maybe I could leave it with a rewording of that question, as in 'ok, when does it become a problem' (for all sorts of obvious reasons) and maybe also BV's famous strap line. Not asking for answers as the thread will no doubt only then go one way, when all I originally was doing was relaying factual observations, on a 'City Centre Strategy' thread, that absolutely shocked me yesterday.
So you're shocked that foreign people are in Hull by the sound of it ? Don't go to London or you will have a meltdown .
Without speaking to every person how do you know which Country they were from? You do realise you don't need to have a 'white face' to have been born in England?
-> So you're shocked that foreign people are in Hull by the sound of it ? Don't go to London or you will have a meltdown . I go to London a few times a year. I am no longer shocked there. I am commenting on the absolute sea change that has taken place here. -> Without speaking to every person how do you know which Country they were from? You do realise you don't need to have a 'white face' to have been born in England? Yes, I do know that, I'm not stupid. Stupidity would be choosing to think that so many of those people were born in England (and for some strange reason have in the last few years decided to relocate to Hull!!). -> Of course you can also be a foreigner with a white face. Yep. And many evidently are. And it doesn't take an interview or a genius to work it out.
When my business partner comes to Hull from Bradford we sometimes walk into town for lunch. He looks a bit foreign to these parts but was born in Doncaster. His family own shed loads of houses and shops on and around Princes Ave and he used to live in Hull. He pays more tax than many people I know and will relocate to Hull this year once he sells his house in Bradford. If you ever see him be careful not to mistake him for a scrounger or a foreigner just because of his pesky brown face, he is alright cos he is with me and I have a proper white face....and bald head.
Maybe when I was younger Ric but I've grown used to it and have a cracking selection of flat caps now.
First off, it's highly unlikely that he will, in your words, "look a bit foreign to these parts". Second, what makes you type things like 'scrounger' and 'pesky brown face' and 'proper white face'? I never said or even inferred anything like that.
I would read your post again. Saying things like 'I'm not a racist' does not make it sound any different. The post was littered with assumptions about people's status with nothing more than the way they look for evidence. I class that as casual racism, I'm sorry if that offends you but as a white English guy I guess you're OK with me saying anything I like cos I'm from Hull and I was born here?
Your exact words are below. Are you seriously telling me you don't think that paragraph is just a little bit racist? You even said you were expecting to be called a racist for goodness sake. I Walk through town most days and see a wide variety of people but have never once felt the need to bring up the ratio of people who looked like they were born here or who were not talking English. Right, I guess I'm going to get called all sorts by some. So be it. I'm only speaking the truth about what I saw, and I don't see why I should not be able to say it how it is, or at least how it so clearly appeared to me. It is no exaggeration to say that, if you just guessed based on the people you saw, you honestly would have no idea whatsoever what country you were in. You certainly would not guess it was England. That isn't racist, it's just fact. I can probably safely assume some of the people are the immigrants housed in the city centre hotels, but that is far, far, far from the full story. Even the few white faces were often not actually British once you heard them speak to each other. In Hull!!
I've re-read it several times, and I've also looked at dictionary definitions. Yes, I'm seriously telling you the above is not racist. Concerned? Xenophobic? Feeling something just ain't right or sustainable about what's happening? Yep, probably that might be fair at least to some degree (although it wasn't what I've typed previously). And for clarity, here's the words YOU typed! ... "look a bit foreign to these parts", "scrounger", "pesky brown face", "proper white face". Hmmn
I was showing you how pathetic your post was when you used terms such as 'white face' but if you want to believe what I said was because I share similar views to you then crack on fella. I own a factory in Pakistan, I'm in business with a British Asian who's kids call me Uncle, but yeah I am sure you're right and I am a massive racist.
