The ironic bill that the scum are trying to pass through parliament is quite hilarious. If only we had minimal service from them when they tanked the economy then we wouldn't be in this ****ing mess. Here's an idea, pay these people a negotiated increase (which I'm sure they are willing to negotiate on) and hey presto, strikes over. May give them a few extra pennies to spend in the hospitality industry that they keep banging on about. Winner winner. Or just keep ruining what was once a great country by imposing more authoritarian rules and laws to cling to power.
I thought you were a lover of Europe, Bob. They have minimum service levels in countries such as Spain, Italy and France.
Who's on strike over pay and conditions in those countries? And are they having to put food banks in hospitals to help feed their staff?
Those countries are under broadly the same economic constraints as in the UK. But the principle of minimum service has far wider application than just the nurses and paramedics.
Its basically taking away the rights of certain professions to take legitimate industrial action…..but you know that already, don’t you Goldie. All well and good if you go in to that profession knowing that is the situation…..however to have it imposed is a different matter entirely.
The simplest way to avert the strikes is to sit down and negotiate pay. The govt obviously want the strikes to continue. It really is that simple.
And before anyone comes back with 'the country can't afford it', we found money to piss on test and trace, PPE, making Mone a multi millionaire over and over, even a couple of million went on trying to sell channel 4 for ****s sake
This is the thing for me Bob….the government can find billions for obviously flawed projects like “track and trace”, give their mates back handers for crap PPE procurement, give greedy companies vast amounts for furlough payments and find money to send arms to Ukraine…..but when it comes to workers pay there is suddenly no money in the kitty. Yeah we’re “all in it together”, eh ?
France doesn't have any of the other restrictions on strikes that exist here. In France, the right to strike is protected by law. Unions can strike at any time. They have no mandatory pre-strike ballots, no ban on secondary action, no insistence that strike votes are held by post, no turnout requirement banning strikes unless 50% of eligible workers vote. It's a different world of industrial relations.
And if Labour truly are a party for working people then hopefully these things can quite easily be repealed.
You guys along with nurses, GPS etc are, in my opinion the most important in society. You literally save people's lives. But hey, it's the bankers who need the bonuses.
It's not taking the right away. It's simply ensuring a skeletal service, which in some cases will save lives of the public. I know you're in favour of saving lives,Stainsey.
To be honest I was hoping the pandemic had shown us, as a society, who were the most valuable to society…..the Doctors, the Nurses, the transport workers, the postal workers, the retail staff…sadly we’ve learnt **** all and still value those who are the least worthy.
Mone is being sued by the government. There's currently a public inquiry into the pandemic, test and trace etc
Absolute bollox as I’ve pointed out. There are VOLUNTARY processes that have been put in place, precisely to “save lives”…..people are literally leaving the picket line to take such actions. The current sound bite from your Tory government is purely “smoke and mirrors”, put there to demonise the workers…sadly there are people like yourself who fall for this abhorrent behaviour.
The health service has put in voluntary processes, so I don't see your problem if it is enshrined in law as it is in other European countries. My difficulty with strikes in other sectors, is that the strength of the bargaining position is governed by the nature of the service rather than merit. Traffic wardens may be incredibly underpaid but no one gives a toss if they go on strike. But rail or underground train services (many of whom are really well paid) stop workers going to work and so there's a real blackmail element. So, for me, there should be some constraints on strikes in these services.
The staff, through our unions have put in voluntary processes…..we, as staff, can withdraw from those voluntary processes at any time we want. However our unions have asked us to abide by these voluntary processes. You talk like a typical right-winger Goldie…..Kelv would be very proud.
