Reading that after watching our youth team last night, makes you wonder just how many youngsters, with high hopes, will make a full time career out of football. So often when you look to see where a player is now, you find them playing for a non-league side alongside part-time players. When Watford started the Academy, part of the ethos was to give them a good all round education as so few would be full time players, and they needed to be prepared for a life outside football.
It actually sounds like he had a good attitude—the managers have good things to say about him—just never quite managed to step up. I think luck does play a part in building a career. You have to get the right break at the right time to get a run of games when you're in form. If other in form strikers are in front of you in the pecking order, or you get an injury at the wrong time, it can torpedo your chances. It does seem strange he couldn't forge a career at least at League One level.
I think I saw him falling over for Udinese at the weekend when flicking channels. I think it was him, didn´t put too muich attention to it though. I thought he'd live up to his name, but just got worse and worse.
