Many people are saying that Bale is the best player that the UK has ever produced....

It might be my age, or just lack of interest in international or Premiership football over the past decade or more, but I could come up with plenty of players in the last 50 years that would be ahead of Bale in my humble opinon

    Such as
    George Best
    Bobby Moore
    Gordon Banks
    Peter Shilton
    Bobby Charlton
    Paul Gasgoine
    Gary Lineker
    Steven Gerrard
    Wayne Rooney
    Ryan Giggs
    Kenny Dalglish
    Alan Shearer

    And that's without trying

    All subjective I know.

Think you are misreading it. He is the most successful British player to play abroad based on trophies won.

    Ah, fair enough.
Don't suppose he had that many competitors in terms of trophys won in that case ?? Platt at Sampdoria, Lineker/Hughes at Real, McMannaman at Real etc ?
Not forgetting St David at Real and Inter Milan

    3 La Liga Titles, 1 Spanish Cup, 5 x Champions League , 3 x Super Cup. 3 x Fifa Club World Cup

I know he came on as sub in a few, but he turned that one I think v Liverpool in champions league on its head when he came on.
Not a bad haul in 9 years at Madrid, one of those years he was at Spurs on loan and one or two seasons didn’t play.

He was certainly a good, possibly great player, but the best UK player ever?
George Best has to be a contender surely - ok on titles won Soelskaar (spelling) would be up there. So would Beckham. Then there’s Gordon Banks - who even the great Pele acknowledged.

I could name some great lads or use google, Georgie Best, Alan Ball, Bobby Charlton, Duncan Edwards, Jimmy Greaves and a host more, Gale was a great player, I wish him a good life but not top of the tree worldwide but for his nation, brilliant.

In picking who is greater than who is almost impossible if not impossible as all scenario's are different times with different kit and different teams around them or whom they play against.
Suffice it to say GARETH BALE joins all those other greats who given the sport much pleasure ..........

im being pedantic but just in case you ever get it in a quiz question… lineker/Hughes were at Barcelona and Becks was at AC Milan.

Not sure I’ve seen Kevin Keegan mentioned yet but he won two Ballon D’or while playing for Hamburg and 10 club trophies.

Bale has been a quality player though

I think he tarnished his image quite badly with his behaviour in his last couple of seasons with Real Madrid and that is why he is being discounted by some for this accolade.

He was no angel in the last few years. But Zidane’s treatment trying to move him on by refusing to play him didn’t help. Then they said he wouldn’t speak Spanish when there’s videos of him speaking Spanish.

I think even though he’s sat on a pile of cash, he may look back at his career and regret being stubborn and just moved on. Retiring at 33 seems a bit odd as well as I’m sure he can get fit and a new club.

None of that list comes close to George Best.

Agree with that, except Dalglish , good but not in the same league as the others imo, I would put Dalglish on a similar level to Keegan

It’s what the press are saying the OP took it as best British player home and abroad. But I don’t think those two have as many medals as Bale got.
Nothing to do with my opinion of him just what the press were saying.
