I'm sorry but why would a goalie be 'rested' its not the hardest job, my previous step dad played for Liverpool in goal and he used to tell me how all the players would go and run, and the goalies would just dive about, goalies do not need resting.
It's called squad rotation and utilisation. We keep all of our squad match fit and give them experience so that we can cope when we pick up injuries, unlike Arsenal who fall apart every time their one man Van Persie catches a cold.

SAF usually gives his second choice keeper a few league games each season, usually in games he expects us to win. Keeps the pressure on the 1st choice, and makes sure the 2nd choice gets to build a rapport with the defence in case of injuries. SAF has definitely learnt the lessons Chelsea learnt after Cech got injured in 2006. After all, what will Arsenal do if Chesney gets injured? i dont get the reading into the situation, Sir Alex was giving Lindegaard a game, he's a decent keeper and its good to give him more than just the odd leauge cup game and the easier champions leauge fixtures (especailly as Amos got the last leauge cup game). De Gea played midweek no harm in letting Lindergaard have a go, if you look back at last year Fergie pretty much reduced wherever possible goalkeepers to one game per week unless both games were big games sure this was cause VDS was getting on a bit but its still logical to keep the backup sharp and give the forst choice a break (more so mental than physical)
