Milky and Emu will be along shortly to explain how leaving big spaces out wide results in low quaility chances for the opposition.
Yep Wilko put together a defence of misfits but misfits with pedigree. And they had… what’s that word again. Pace. Well apart from zico, obviously but he was Zico so it didn’t matter.
Maybe it's the modern day footballer as it used to be essential to show someone down the outside, whereas nowadays it seems defenders allow the opposition to turn back, or pass inside and the play switches rather than doing the tackling themselves.
We could change tactics and play like Everton. We'd concede fewer goals that way. I'll give you that. We could appoint Dyche as you suggested a few weeks ago. We'd certainly concede less. Is that the plan?
It doesn’t work like that though does it fella. Bit like people suggesting bielsa played a big target man. Change one thing it impacts on everything else in the balance of the side Did you feel our previous coach needed to learn from Wilko when we were leaking 6 and 7? I don’t believe they were bought for their ability to defend… bielsa wanted ball playing centre halfs... Koch and llorente are good footballers but just not suited to the pace and physicality of the PL. Just my opinion fella… appreciate you see it differently.
Maybe 2 wins from the last 16 games suggests it should be. Of course keeping a good shape doesn't have to be ultra defensive and there are quite few different things Jesse could try. It would however mean having less players in the opposition half pressing to win the ball back. My personal preference would be for Tyler Adams to be the sole defensive midfielder or for him to play between 2 centre halves like Kalvin used to do on ocassion. Tyler is actually better suited to a mopping up role than any player we've had in decades plus isn't really effective creatively in the attacking half other than winning the ball back.
