No denying it, much has been achieved since last season's disaster.

But there are still issues to resolve. It's plain for all to see on the pitch.

Drogba didn't. Ronaldo didn't. Nani didn't. Evra didn't. Thierry Henry didn't. Dzeko didn't. Javier "bench commander" Mascherano didn't.

Rubbish the lot of them ;)

Surely the players you listed were taking time adapting to the English game and not just a new team ? The players you have signed, well most of them, have EPL experience.

Liverpool have signed some decent players for too big of a price tag ( not that it's the players fault ).

I think the likes of Carroll and Henderson will repay their price tag by years of service as I think they will both come good. However I still can't get my head around you signing Downing ?

I've always thought adapting to the league was an overused excuse to be honest.

Understanding between players in the side and tactics/formation are at least 80% of it IMO.

Downing's there for service. His form has dipped the last couple of matches but generally he's been providing the right service. The finishing has been the issue more than anything. He's hit the bar at least a couple times as well.

As you said, I think the English buys are overpriced but with a longer term outlook.

I don't know if you're familiar with the money ball strategy that Henry uses with the Red Sox, but they buy most players based on stats and potential (Carroll and Henderson), and others who aren't exactly young, but have good stats (Downing). Sometimes you have to spend a little extra on a player because you need him for your team, regardless of his age etc. and that's why Downing was brought in (for his crossing). Same applies to Carl Crawford for the Red Sox.

Granted Downing hasn't been amazing so far, but that's ^ the theory behind it all.

I'm not doubting his theories or trying to have a pop at all.

I think he has made some good signings in the likes of Suarez and Enrique but I just think you could have signed better than Downing
Before Liverpool signed him whenever he was on the team sheet for England I was disappointed as I just don't rate him. I think you could have got better for 20 mill - but like I said I'm not having a pop I just don't rate him that highly

I wasn't having a go, I was just explaining why Downing was bought. I personally (and in retrospect the desire is even stronger) think we should have got someone else. Two names mentioned were Cazorla and Mata, and either of those would have done a better job, I feel.

seeing all your replys to my thread i still believe kenny needs to go down the road and buy a proven goal scorer in january.andy carroll WILL be a great player, ffs he is only 22 and will come good.
as per usual when we play teams like swansea at home we SHOULD be putting them to bed,it happens every year.its ok to say we keep hitting the bar the post etc but the fact is hitting the bar or the post does not get us 3 points.
downing is a great player and he will come good, but saying that he has played well in most of the games.
but as above we still need to buy a top class striker who will get goals week in and week out like dembja ba or a player like him.
splash the cash kenny stick your neck out and get CARLOS TEVEZ.it wont hurt.
one final thing, why the **** do goalkeepers play out of there skin when they play us? it happened yesterday and its annoying!!!

me thinks we need to write to the fa to ask if we could widen the goal and make the cross bar higher and only allow goalkeepers who are 5ft nothing to play against us!!!!!
