Can we continue our good cup form, the one saving grace of this season, with a cup upset against Leicester City, and a place in round 4 of the FA cup?

They have not done well over Christmas and New Year, maybe too many wines, or the start back after the world cup. But they are a top professional side and this should be easy.
But with all the crap we have, remember, tread in dog **** and it sticks. All they need to do is get some dogshit on their boots and we could take this to another replay. And a bit more cash in the bank to help get some proper footballers. I still believe we can salvage something from this season, are leaving it too late to get a play-off place, or are we????? we still have, 23 games to go and we are ONLY 24 points away from the holy places. We are creating a new backroom gang and a new owner.
But to be honest tomorrow's game is about how far we got this year considering our place in the table and we should be grateful we got a prem draw this time to give us great funding through diminishing gates. Who knows how we will play, the gaffer seems to be better at playing against the top sides as opposed to Div 2. So maybe not as big a defeat as we might well think.
But they are only 2 points from the relegation zone and 11 points from the play-offs. We took out Brentford and look where they are.
    Im going for a replay

Us 1 v them 1 ( Baggott and Kane ). Enjoy the day all those lucky to have tickets, I hope the sun shines and it is not too cold.

HAPPY NEW YEAR keep the faith

Was a nice day,and players stepped up well. Still lost though without scoring. Hartlepool home next week is a massive game for Nil Harris. We lose that and surely can't stay any longer

I've said it all season and I will keep saying it, Harris is not the problem.

The problem has been years of under funding in the club, one now that Brad is trying to put right. I predicted well before NH that we were going to end up in the National League, I appreciate he makes a handy and easy target for those that want someone to blame. We've got through something like 10 managers since MadDog (i've given up counting), that's got to be averaging one a year due to the fickleness inherited from the Championship years.

We hounded Stimmo out, but he was one of few managers to win us something. MadDog was sacked, after only the season before winning us the first title in my time watching the Gills. Evans has gone to Stevenage who are now riding high, as were some of his previous clubs, except for us. It's always us that fails, we've picked up this Championship mentality, which is akin to the Premiership mentality, unless you're winning we want you out, proved in our record over the last decade.

We've achieved absolutely nothing by sacking managers, accept to spiral down to that very place I predicted we would end up in, the only difference is it's a difference face to blame. Much like the fans that refused to support the club while Scally is still here, well he's still here and was at the game, and today we got a full house lol.

That 'Nil' Harris as you like to call him, today made me feel proud of my team. Sorry he didn't give you a goal to celebrate, maybe you should have asked for a refund.

I was at the game today and thought the Gills played well. Obviously there was a difference in quality, but the Gills went toe to toe and gave an excellent account of themselves. If you can remain organised and hard to beat and obviously add goals by signing better forward players then I can still see you can getting out of trouble. Good luck for the rest of season.

You can only 'beat' the team you're playing - 'oui' ?

I have to point out the obvious - that Leicester weren't great-- especially as a supposed Premier League team.... BUT - let's concentrate on giving the Gills players due praise for their effort. It's been said that if we replicate the performance in our remaining games, Gills can / should be able to avoid relegation.........and - that is what makes me most frustrated. !

If The Gills players can increase their effort for cup games - why can't they do the same for mere league fixtures ? I really don't want to take the shine off the performance against Leicester - but - by my reasoning, the level of 'effort' in league games has got to have been ' short'...WHY ? .. It's simply not fair on fans if the players do not give 100% commitment in every game........

I can 'excuse' the occasional sub-standard display...I can fully accept it when opposition is better - and will, painfully, accept any subsequent defeat...This season, ((and in recent years )), too many defeats have been because of a lack of commitment - and that is inexcusable - and doesn't deserve the players being saved from relegation - because that wouldn't be fair on fans** who give 100% commitment.

** I think that it's taken me 60 years of being a loyal 'fan', to realise that I shouldn't waste my time and money if the team can't be properly bothered...Yesterday's performance has coincided with a 'blue moon'!.. I sincerely hope that the same moon reappears next Saturday - and EVERY game thereafter - otherwise my next appearance at Priestfield might not be until after Haley's comet next returns !

ps - Mr Changing man - I liked your post...The only 'incorrect' word in it was 'You' !! - I think you meant 'Oui' !....but, it seems that, if commitment doesn't improve, I will soon join 'you' (( I know it's the French word for 'Yes' - but I have used phonetic poetic licence for effect ! ))

I know it's weird some of the stuff that goes through my head, but as an analogy, I would describe our team in 2023, a bit like a car with a flat tyre.

You go to the boot, only to find, cars no longer have a spare wheel
You find the inflation kit but it's past its expiry date, and exhuasted of any means of being any help
You don't have a jack even if you did have a spare wheel
You don't have a wheel nut wrench even if you did have a jack
You call the AA for help and they say they will be with you in half hour
You call the AA back to say no one has arrived, they tell you to give it an hour
You call the AA back to say still no one has arrived, they tell you to give it two hours
You are stranded, you have a place to be, but currently you are going no where, like a ladder with no rungs

Does all that suddenly make you a bad driver (manager)?

I said a long while back, before we criticise Harris we need to give him the tools to do the job, Brad is just starting down that road for him now, because he certainly never had the tools prior, well only the sort of 'tools' that would be a bit like, giving him bricks instead of a jack.

Ok he don't come over and clap, but what do we expect, he's still stuck on the phone to the AA, trying to get us going again!

Now I'll shut up and go and have a lay-down. <laugh>
