If Howe didn’t know before he surely knows now that Lewis, Wood, Murphy, Anderson, Longstaff, Ritchie, Lascelles all need upgrading. I love our first XI, but there’s still far too much of a stench of Ashley in this club.

 

A lot of these lads have been very fortunate to get the contracts they have as half of them wouldn’t get a game for SW.

 

Shearer has the right approach to these games. Put your strongest side out, get 3 up then rest your best players.
