Just got back. First half we were woeful going forward - no cohesion whatsoever. Fully merited the rude chants. Second half much better. We got in behind down the wings a fair few times and created some good scenarios if not chances. Deserved the win in the end. Jones still has a long way to go to win the fans round but definite progress.
Which is why I don’t think our relegation is by any means certain….if we get a competent manager (or if NJ surprises us by becoming competent).
An away day will always feel fantastic after a win, especially a come back and in such dire weather conditions. I thought the support was mainly brilliant but I hate the ****e ‘banter’ chants about how **** we are, “we scored a goal” etc. Also the knitpicking about Jones’ press conferences, his nail biting, his hairline, his religion, all just seems really off. Not into that ****e. I’ve voiced my negative opinions about his style and the way he has the team playing, and ultimately don’t want him as manager, but all of these micro critiques into him are just insane.
One thing we did improve on drastically was pressing. 2nd half we got in their faces a lot more. We committed a lot of fouls and picked up a few yellows but they were good yellows if there is such a thing. KWP brought down Zaha to stop him breaking into the box for example. Need more of that.
Coukdbt agree more, it’s actually great to see this. We’ve been far too nice for too long. We’ve all been saying this for ages. Tactical yellows & fouls and getting in the refs face is something we haven’t ever done. All of the best sides do it. If NJ can at least add that ****housery and game management into the side it would be good
It looks unlikely but the second half and his post match comments today have made me more optimistic. He addressed most of the concerns and can clearly see what we can see. So that’s a start at least. I harbour no ill feelings towards him. If he can get a tune out of the team and get us playing, everyone will fall in love with him very quickly.
Did he change shape or anything 2nd half? I was trying to watch but streams were so bad I only caught the odd 5 minute spell here and there.
