I've had a trawl through other posts but amazed to see no one appears to have mentioned we shipped two goals in the last 5 mins (OK, last 12 mins if you want to be accurate).

I, for one, am a bit worried about that. Hammering a team and taking your eye off the ball right at the death. Supposing it was only 1-0 or 2-0, people would be going ballistic on here.

Please don't say I'm being picky, goal diff matters but so does the need to concentrate until the final whistle.

I was once berated at work when I had a contractual target of customer supply of 97%. I was doing 98% but the boss had a go at me over the missing 2%. I said we were above target, what's the problem. He answered that my job was to worry about getting the 97%/98%, his job was to worry about the missing 2%.

Come on CP, don't rest on a fine win, start asking why we let two late goals in. It may save us points later on.

It did take the shine off the win. Possibly the 2nd goal was unstoppable, but the first one was down to a lapse in defending. At 5-0 I really wanted them to keep a clean sheet and the defending was perfect up until the last 10 mins, I just hope we aren't about to see the return of the days of hanging onto nervy wins and then not seeing out the end of the game.

If we were only 1 or 2 nil up Jackson wouldn't have gone off and the team would not have lost concentration the way it did.

I agree that it was annoying to concede two, but Powell and the defence all know that and will be determined to cut out all mistakes like that in future.

So in a way it's a good thing that we conceded 2 (apart from our goal difference taking a hit obviously), as it will show the defence that they can NEVER relax.

The team did lose its shape a bit with the subs and Jackson apart from scoring also put in a very good defensive display.

I have to say WSW, Hamer still scares the life out of me, particularly not attacking slow, hanging crosses or speculative balls into the area - there were a couple of times yesterday when balls went between him and the last defender with neither taking responsibility.

Something else that's not been mentioned was the way that Taylor and Morrison snuffed out the threat from Tsoumou, who looked their only player in the first half with a clue. Solid stuff.

Frustrating to conced two at the death...and I can only assume it was due to switching off a little. Apparently Powell gave them a right dressing down for the performance in the last few minutes. Subs didn't help. I thought JJ may have had a niggle as I don't think he'd put Euell left mid through choice.
I quite like Hamer. No flapping yesterday, fantastic distrubution and seems pretty vocal.

I like Hamer think he`s solid,if it hadnt been 5 0 we wouldnt of let 2 in.....the reaction from our defence showed though that they cared they were gutted.Hence Hamer boting the ball into the stand.

Chris Powell's job is to worry about conceding the two Goals - He's not gonna sit the team down tomorrow and say "lets have a look at those 5 goals again and brush over the two we conceded".

I completely agree about the Goal Difference especially as before start of play we were +1 ahead of Hudderfield meaning a 1-0 defeat when they visit would have seen us switch places.

At the end of the day though, how many seasons gone by has a place been won or lost on GD - I can think of only one when Welling managed to survive in the Conference back in the late 90s

I too was gutted about the 2 goals being conceded, it almost felt like a draw when I left. One Preston poster stated 'we won the second half 2-1', fair point even if it was only a joke, we should not have conceded two. I wouldn't say the second goal was unstoppable, if anything I'd say it was shocking defending that let him score such a goal.

Hamer is growing on me (mainly due to his pinpoint distribution) but he scares the life out of me too. SirJohn said 'no flapping' but I noticed he done his traditional 'dropping the ball in a crowded box' again yesterday.

That is the most ridiculous thing I have ever read. I am hypercritical and somewhat pessimistic myself (for example I haven't yet jumped on the "CP is Superman" bandwagon yet, though I hope to do so at some future time) but you have just watched an entertaining game of football (by Div One standards), your team has just humiliated a team tipped as promotion rivals and have increased their lead at the top of the table, and you are so "gutted" that a three-goal win "felt like a draw". I would get the doc to change your prescription.

    Calm down :S

I was merely making the point that I was disappointed to see 2 goals in quick succession just before the end of the game, which took the icing off the cake so to speak. I thought it was a great game and I was proud of the team, you seem to completely ignore the use of the word 'almost'.

Perhaps you should get Specsavers to change your prescription before you try to personally insult me <ok>

Was a great result on Saturday and the crowd was great too! Reminded me of the prem days......though the two goals should be a warning to the squad not to switch off. It was a shame we did not keep a clean sheet.

    Anyone else worried by Hamer?

    Nope not one bit...

He looks like a thoroughly decent keeper to me. Most importantly Imo is that he appears to be growing into the role of being our long term number one. For me he's showing signs of improvement in terms of his play and confidence, with every game he plays.

Hamer's kicking under pressure can be a bit dodgy, there were 2 he got badly wrong on Saturday, which could have cost us goals (e.g yesterday where Begovic got punished by Eagles), so work to be done there.

His handing on crosses was better on Saturday though

GlovePup, to some extent yes - he has a knack of dropping the ball in a crowded box/at the feet of defenders. But his passing is generally beautifully accurate and he seems to be improving.

Does anyone sit close enough to hear him? I sit in NU so naturally can't, but during his debut cup game I sat in NL and he seemed incapable of raising his voice to anything more than a whimper. Hopefully it was just a sore throat.

The Hammer doesn't worry me at all, the two bad kicks he did were a result of poor back passes and having spent years watching Deano I just don't expect a Charlton keeper to catch a cross.

Having said that, I would have liked him to have come for the corner from which Preston scored their first goal.
