Anyone done it or do it regular?

I fancy going to see Messi live before he retires and as I’m 40 this year trying to convince the girlfriend (absolutely not) to do it.

    Any advice?
Is it best to plan your own weekend or is there a website that does it all for you?

I watch football in the Netherlands. When I started out I just turned up at the stadium and bought a ticket a couple days before that. My first matchday, I went round a few of the bars and made a couple of friends, who I'm still in touch with, the beauty of that is, you would usually have no chance for the big games but if you build up a mini network, they might be nice enough to source you a ticket so you know its definitely worth travelling over for. This is for Vitesse Arnhem, though. They rarely sell out.

I'd definitely just plan your own weekend, tbh.

You'll be going to see PSG, I suspect they'll sell out most or all of their games. You may have to go through a membership or an official website to get tickets for them. Once you get that first ticket though, remember, MAKE FRIENDS with some of their supporters if you can and if you're serious about going back over from time to time.

Also look at travel agents. Football is tourism and whilst it may cost a bit more tickets are usually availabe,

The other option is pick a match where PSG are away to a side that rarely sells out

I went to game when i was in Australia, Sydney vs someone I can’t remember off the top of my head.

Sydney lost, but I had a great time. Ended up chatting and sitting next to two great lads, had a few drinks, I’d recommend it to anyone.

Done it a few times, intend to do it again.

Did Barca-Basel in the CL years ago (2008 maybe), used a ticket tout as the Nou Camp wasn't full. 1-1 draw and saw Messi live. Very touristy.
Did Real Madrid-Eibar in 2016, Real won 4-1. Went to the ground two days before the game to get tickets. Very touristy.
On a stag doo in 2019 went to Sparta Prague-Sigma Olomouc which was a class experience. Simply went to the ground before kick off and got tickets. Ended 2-1 Sparta. A lot more of a 'genuine' experience that one.
Then last summer I was in Dusseldorf so got on a train to go see Borussia Monchengladbach vs Hoffenheim (train took all of 35 mins), the best experience of the lot for me. The Germans have a lot right when it comes to fan experience on a match day. BMG won 3-1 against ten men.
EDIT - Again for this one just got tickets at the ground a couple of hours before kick off. Think they cost 30 euros so really reasonable too.

I have a fair few sides in spain I'd like to see - Athletic Bilbao, Valencia and Real Betis. A trip to Seville may be top of that list.

back over to see Feyenoord soon, always a good trip. I've been to games in Dusseldorf, Koln, Vienna , Portugal , Poland and Ukraine. Ireckon if you are in the matchday city a couple of days before just ask around the locals and you'll usually get sorted with tickets. I'd stay away from Paris like, maybe catch Messi at an away game if possible. Enjoy!

I've been looking into an Ajax game mainly due to the convenience of the flights. You can get tickets from €30. Most home games are Sundays but theres usually a 10pm flight to ponteland and their public transport is awesome, so getting from stadium to airport after wouldn't be a massive panic.

I saw a Dortmund game during a stag weekend in Cologne. I was really rough but remember being able to drink in the ground which sorted me out. Can't remember the actual game but atmosphere was good.

Definitely just do your own thing. No need to get an organised weekend. Easy enough to make your own way and more enjoyable.

I’ve been to the San Siro the most as it’s only an hour away. That could be a good option if you want to combine with a weekend away with your lass. The stadium will be getting knocked down soon so definitely a good one to visit before it goes.
