End of the day, we should be looking at PL quality players, if a L1 or L2 player is worth it, then we should sign them. Whether they make an impression depends on how the manager plays them. Ultimately it’s all about the manager.
I thought from what we saw last season he could develop into a PL quality player. Was our best full back that I can recall since Robbo burst onto the scene.
I agree, but is he PL quality? Was Ash? Was Daws? Was Myhill? Things happen, players step up, players don’t! As I said, end of the day, it’s down to the manager!
It does leave huge question marks over the LB position going forward. If Greaves has been converted to play there, it’s less of a strain, but with Elder probably going in the Summer, it means it’s going to be a priority signing next window. Britt Assombalonga’s name has been mentioned in conversations, could be available for loan. Has always done well at Championship level, but he has had injury problems prior to his move to Turkey. I’d like that one to come off.
Greaves is far better at LB then Fleming and at the start of the season was very shaky at centre half (could have been shota who knows) Fleming is off to league 1 for a reason. I don’t see a long term future for him at the club he lacks in the physical side of things and struggles to read the game defensively. He has nifty feet and a decent out ball but I for one arent spilling tears Rosie doesn’t want him. Difference between him and Christie is night and day with the latter the type of players we need to be aiming for (and seemingly will be) to push up the table. Assambalonga would be a decent signing like to see that come off, potential dud but also proven at this level.
Assombalonga has been left out of the Demirspor squad and is being touted around, he's after a 2.5 yr deal on £23k a week (allegedly).
In the same way that Abel Hernandez is a Hull City reject, or Jean Michaël Seri is a Fulham reject etc...
He wasn't a reject, the season he was released he made 32 appearances and scored 5 goals, mostly playing as a support striker or wide man. He just wanted to move because he didn't get on with Neil Warnock (shocker). I think it's a given that most Championship clubs would be after him, but if we managed it, I can see it going well as he's exactly the type of player Rosenior would look for, he's English, he's experienced (still only 30) and he can score goals. There probably isn't a better bargain going in terms of Championship strikers at the moment.
Rosie Speak is very PC. "Important part of our future plans" = "You have no future here" "Important that he gets game time elsewhere as we reassess our goals" = "You have no future here" Still, it is much kinder than "f... off" and retains a sense of collective camaraderie for the publics' consumption- what is said behind closed doors, who knows? And the brutal reality is that it has to be done.
